Now that one’s for the books! A Pasay City School has filed a law suit against Microsoft Philippines for pirating copyrighted material. [ Digg this! ]
The school, Southeastern College (SEC), filed a Php100USD 2INR 144EUR 2CNY 12 Million (~$2.5PHP 147INR 212EUR 2CNY 18 Million) copyright infringement case against Redmond giant Microsoft and Microsoft Philippines. The case alleges that Microsoft illegally copied and distributed a copyrighted teacher training manual developed by the school.
The video above is of Atty. Estelito Mendoza, lead counsel of Southeastern College (recorded by INQUIRER.net reporter Lawrence Casiraya).
Microsoft Philippines stated earlier that they tried to settle this dispute with SEC to no avail. It is possible there was offer for compensation but they did not agree on the figures. Must be way below the Php100USD 2INR 144EUR 2CNY 12 Million mark.
This case is the first of its kind in the Philippines against Microsoft and it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Let us see how Atty. Mendoza would make any of microsoft’s argument irrelevant.
Jehzeel Laurente says:
teka.. forgive me if my comment is not related.. i’m just curious.. bat nagiging dollar sign ang S ng microsoft? hmmmmmmm…
Ryan says:
Isn’t “Microsoft being sued for piracy” a bit misleading? Just semantics I know, but since there was no money being made by microsoft then it’s not really piracy. One could argue that there was money lost by SEC, but that’s a little curious as well since it’s not like they were going to sell those tutorials anyway.
It was a silly gaffe by Microsoft, but I don’t think they they were willfully pirating, someone in the chain of command just slipped, and they didn’t catch it in time.

This is really top and truly groundbreaking, please vote on it at www.ebenta.com in the featured article. Let the aggressor Microsoft have a dose of its own medicine. The interviewer though is quite annoying with his ‘uhmm’ ‘uhmm’ habit _@@_ lol!
Arnel Reodica says:
I just hope that SEC will not settle into any agreement with Microsoft Philippines. The case though is tough, piracy coming from a very trusted software company in the country.
Tsk tsk……
