Asus Ares Dual Radeon HD 5870 Monster Card

When this package arrived early this week, I thought it was a whole gaming rig considering the size of the box that came with it. All I know is that it’s codenamed Ares. Go take a peek after the jump.

The Asus Ares came in with this huge box/packaging — almost the same size as a mid-tower PC case or a box of a 22-inch monitor.

Unboxed, you get another packaging — this time, a locked, metal briefcase. I had to decipher the number combination but I tried 000 first and, fortunately, it worked.

Inside the briefcase is this gigantic graphics card — the Ares, a dual Radeon HD 5870 video card that comes built-in with 4GB GDDR5 RAM. That’s 2GB per GPU. Wicked!

Asus Ares specs:
ATI Radeon HD 5870 X2
4GB GDDR5 RAM
850MHz Engine Clock Speed
3200 Stream Processors
4GB 1200MHz GDDR5 Memory
256-bit x 2 memory interface
HDMI Output
Display Port
DVI Port

It’s supposed to come with a gaming mouse as well but it wasn’t in the briefcase already when I opened it. Probably the guys who reviewed this before me forgot to put it back.

I’m thinking this card would eat my power supply alive. The box says it requires at least a 750W system power supply in order to work. And if you’re wondering how much each of these babies cost — how does $1,200PHP 70,423INR 101,700EUR 1,143CNY 8,734 sound?

  1. Oh.My.God…that’s all I can say.

  2. Wow!

  3. i think that’s a reasonable price for that kind of specs no?

u have this and an i7 and some (kahit) 4gb lang na RAM… omg…

sana lang they make it more ‘energy-saving’… dba yun ang trend ngayon?

  4. I’m drooling already…. Luxury O_O

  5. Looks like a weapon from Mass Effect…

  6. Even if I had the money, I won’t spend that much.

  7. Bad ass! but with a 54k price tag, its a pocket digger or maybe its just me. XD

  8. I confess, I don’t have any idea as to how this will fit on an ATX Casing…

But as yuga says, it’s definitely WICKED!!!

And if I had the money, I would definitely buy it. Only problem is I don’t… Wehehe!

  9. Makabili nga nyan, mukhang maganda yung metal briefcase ah…

  10. I’d buy a Nikon dSLR instead. That thing looks like a component for a Decepticon or something.

This would be perfect for the newest version of Plants vs Zombies! :P

  11. WICKED….. ANG PRICE….

  12. For that price you can already purchase a decent desktop, netbook and an android phone combined!!

  13. Will it run Crysis? lol

Seriously, that baby right there is currently the best graphics card in the market. Not only will it run Crysis, it will chew it up, spit it out and take a dump on it.

  14. i like the way it looks, cool.

  15. Pag Nanalo ako okaya dad ko sa 6/55
bibili ko niyan.!! babalatuan pa kita sir Yuga.!!
    Nyahahahaha :))

  16. WoW Monster Specs!
Sana i have that huge am0unt to buy that Monster Card!

  17. xieeet! Haha

  18. WOW.. nangangain talaga to hindi lng PSU pti na sa kuryente. hahaha pero astig ng case pdeng png briefcase. hehehe

  19. For a $1,200, you can already buy yourself a Mac or MBA.

  20. Oh, you’ll have to at least have a 1000W PSU to safely run this thing. 750 is cutting it close, as you’ll have to leave room for cooling etc.

  21. Sir Yuga, are you sure its a video card and not some other behemoth gadget? :D
$1,200 for a videocard??? Well, this one packs a punch so you get what you pay for. :D This will eat your PC games alive! :D

  22. If Manny Pacquiao is my Dad, he can probably buy me a dozen of these stuff… Just wishin. ;)

Probably I’ll just buy the briefcase instead (hope its cheaper), looks cool!

  23. imagine if you had 2 of these cards to crossfire :)

  24. wag mo na isoli yan haha! very rare card! check also the xfx HD 5970 black edition. the package is outrageous!

  25. monster card with monster PRICE!!!

  26. Wow. I’d really love that video card. But I wish it were nVidia. :)

  27. it seems that asus loves to give gamers the most premium stuff in town…imagine you’ve just bought a video card then it came with a very cool packaging and freebies!

asus is really for the hardcore users.

the metal briefcase seems like a bonus…may i take it? hehe.

  28. i wish asus would make their ROG items available locally…

  29. haha kung meron ako nyan.. try ko yan sa lumang pc ko.. ano kaya kakalabsan?

wicked nga! lol di kasya sa atx ko yan :3

  30. still the fastest card around, and will continue to be so for around teh next 2 months.

    btw it’s a HD 5970 variant, and not a 5870 X2 :)

  31. makabili nga nyan para malaro ko na yung Pet Society ko… LOL hahaha :)

  32. Sorry but, I am not convinced. Shedding that much just for this once piece of hardware.

Quad SLI or Crossfire is far better than deploying one of these.

Its always better not to put all your eggs in 1 basket.

    Just my two cents.

  33. haha…it seems like the mouse in this package just ran away

  34. WTF What kind of Casing will this monster fit?!

  35. what a wicked monster vcard love it btw love the price too lol
