Asus ROG G73Jh Gamer’s Notebook

This 17-inch notebook by Asus is looking to be a pretty solid gaming laptop — an Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) G73Jh. Announced back in January during CES 2011, the Asus G73Jh is said to be inspired by the Lockheed F117A stealth fighter. See our unboxing photos below and judge for yourself.

Asus ROG G73Jh Gaming Laptop

Intel Core i7 720QM @ 1.6GHz (4 cores, 8 threads) Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM (4 x 2GB)
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB RAM
1 TB SATA HDD (2x500GB)
Blu-Ray Drive
DVD Super Multi
Bluetooth 2.1
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
4 USB 2.0 ports
HDMI port
SD card reader
2MP webcam
8-cell 5200mAh Li-Ion battery

When the system is set to Performance mode, the 8-cell battery only lasts about 1 hour after a full charge — that’s how much power this rig eats up easily. Of course, notebooks like this one aren’t recommended to be unplugged from the power outlet.

Suggested retail price of this rig is Php99,995USD 1,704INR 144,453EUR 1,623CNY 12,409. Been running SC2 and DOTA at highest settings without any problems. Expect the full review of the unit next week.

  1. This model is quite outdated Yuga, the newest one is the Asus G73SW which houses the 2nd generation Intel Sandy Bridge processor (i7 Q2630 to be precise).

But I still prefer the MSI GT680R over asus’ G73SW mainly due to price-to-performance ratio. :)

    • yep mura nga at magaganda na specs ng mga msi gaming laptops. since pareho naman taiwan yan 2 yan malamang brand name na lang nagpapamahal dyan,

    • @dan – the Philippines is almost always 1 generation delayed when it comes to high-end laptops. Not too many buyers in that segment.

    • i’ve got to admit that in terms of performance-price ratio, msi gt680r is the winner. but i don’t like the way how msi designed the gt680r because there are so many glossy silver plastic which makes it feel cheap. design-wise, i’ll be picking the asus g73 because of its stealth fighter-inspired design and it’s got the best cooling system on a gaming notebook.

  2. Ang dami naman na stickers! Sana yung updated na model.

  3. Boss Yuga naman, SC2 and DOTA, these are not graphic intensive games eh! >_<

Please try playing newer FPS games there such as COD: Black Ops or Battlefield 2 and let's see if smooth pa rin ito at highest setting. If it is, then it might be worth the 99k price tag that comes with it (but then again, maybe not! ang mahal kasi e! ahehe =P)

    • I have this for about a year now, this one eat’s Modern Warfare for breakfast :)

    • @messie – played Street Fighter 4 last night and was running its built-in benchmark. Di kaya at full HD and high settings lahat.

    • sir yuga, just try running the actual game instead and you’ll see that the fps measured by the benchmarks are false. the street fighter 4 benchmark gives some false fps. with the specs of that laptop, i think it can handle street fighter 4 at max settings since it’s not a graphic intensive and cpu intensive game.

    • Sir Yuga, i’d like to update you that the lastest generation Asus G73 is already available at Villman for the price of Php. 100,000.

It’s the Asus G73SW which comes with the 2nd generation Core i7 Sandy bridge processor, 8GB of RAM, Nvidia GTX 460M with 1.5GB of VRAM and 2X 500GB HDD.

      Here’s the link:
      http://www.villman.com/Product-Detail/Asus_G73SW_TZ023V

It’s kinda tempting to buy it since it’s priced the same as the unit that you have.

    • Onga, pero MAX settings yun SC2, mahihirapan pa rin ang halos lahat ng laptops..this one gets by just fine. :)

  4. i like this…

now i wonder if we will hear folks complaining about being overpriced, since this is windows based, and not apple.

    • I doubt it, seeing as the 17″ MBP is going for 130k php. Sure, newer tech, faster i7, but less RAM, HDD space and an arguably weaker video card.

  5. parang ALIENWARE ung design ng back nya at saka ung pagka plastic.

  6. really expensive, though!

  7. Nakaka hinayang bumili ng 100K worth na laptop.

  8. with that specs, and you’re only running DOTA?? wtf?!

  9. parang Alienware nga design nya. Pati price nya prang alienware din. Ewan ko lang kung may lighting effects din yang aa Asus

BTW, I was here a few hours ago and I saw the account was hacked with a logo Hacker inside (same like intel logo). Just a heads up sir yuga.

  10. the design of the laptop sucks! msi/acer nlng aq.. ms sulit.

  11. desktop pa rin pag dating sa gaming!

  12. Just buy a PS3 and a 17 inch lcd monitor, it is on-fourth of the price.

  13. Just buy a PS3 and a 17 inch LCD monitor for one-fourth of the price.

    • The PS3 sucks ass when it comes to graphics if it is compared to a monster gaming rig or laptop.

  14. Selling my brand new m15x with i7 940xm and nvidia 460m bluray etc, highest configuration possible with win 7 ultimate, everything in it’s factory plastic still complete with receipt and one year Dell warranty 091730*****

  15. Or call my other number 091785*****

  16. old news.. this was announced back 2010. I got this machine and its been running very solid since i got it last may of 2010. and yes, it runs most of the games today smoothly at maximum settings.

    • btw, the price is little exaged.. price of this machine now is under $1k.. that means its about 40k php.. 99k php is too much.. and sc2.. dota? lol what kind of benchmarking are you doing mr. yuga.. get some direct x 11 games and do the benchmarking.. very poor article of g73..

  17. I’ve heard and researched about this laptop one year ago, and at that time it was quite the bang for the buck for it’s performance.

Sir Yuga, try playing Crysis on it and see how well it handles that. ATI 5870 isn’t the strongest mobile card but 8 GB of memory ought to help it.

Nice peak into the laptop sir yuga.

  18. i’m sure this can easily handle crysis 2 at max settings. been using the asus g60jx for a year and it has lower specs but it runs crysis 2 smoothly at med settings.

  19. If you want to check try to open the MSI and you’ll see that the MOBO is made by ASUS. Even Alienware desktop’s and laptop’s MOBO are made by ASUS.
