StarCraft 2: The 12-Year Itch

The first StarCraft was released by Blizzard in 1998. More than 12 years later, “: Wings of Liberty” is here, selling over 1.5 million copies and making it one of the most popular online games in the world.

So I grabbed a copy last week and scheduled a game night. I’ve been trying to stay away from addicting games like WarCraft or StarCraft for years but this one I really had to try SC2 is like one of those games that “once you pop, you can’t stop”.

Unlike the previous game, you will need a Battle.net account to play over the network (LAN) — otherwise, you can only play in single mode (although I hear cracks are already spreading in the intarwebs to bypass this restriction).

Anybody out there who are playing SC2 or just finished the entire campaign?

  1. the battle.net thing must be a sort of DRM thing

  2. You’re right about the cracks. Got a hold of one several days ago from a friend — the game seems to work perfectly after so it’s good. :)

  3. You’re right about the c.r.acks. Got a hold of one several days ago from a friend — the game seems to work perfectly after so it’s good. :)

    PS
I don’t understand why my post keeps getting flagged as spam.

  4. @abeolandres been playing it for a week now. Just the campaign. See ya tomorrow Abe.

  6. Finished the campaign on Normal and Hard, having trouble with brutal >:(

    need a bnet buddy?

    @Andre,
yep. Bnet-only is Blizz’s version of DRM.

  7. so cool… but i’m still waiting for Diablo 3.. :D

  8. Local distributors are still overpricing the game so I did not buy one yet. Maybe after a month or two.

  9. I agree with Fleeb!! You local distributors suck!

Its a great game and have been playing the single player campaign I downloaded from megaupload (Razor1911 proper). It should be entertaining enough for a while as I get my skills up till I can buy serial that isn’t overpriced.

You lean towards salesman in your articles, but there is controversy with the game. Actavision’s forcing of 25mb max mods and forcing no “sideloadling” of user generated content pretty much sucks.

  10. When is this going to be in Internet cafes?

How’s it play on an under-powered laptop?

  11. Mahal ng box 3k ata un… tsaka di pa kaya ng pc ko…

  12. wala pong LAN sa sc2 sir abe. tinanggal nila.

played campaign using bypass battle.net crack

  13. 12 years in the making… now that’s quality game… the life cycle of a console/software/games is usually 3 to 5 years, then updating/patching up any holes in between. But the original Starcraft lasted for more than a decade.. they really have a lot of time to think about the sequel… yeah!!

  14. show me the money

  15. buhay nanaman ang mga pirata ng cd hehehe…

    nice…. starcraft!!!!!

  16. I’m in the Get the Artifact Chapter.

    Ang bibilis ng mga foreigners…

You have to be careful of rush assaults:
    1.) Zerglings
    2.) Terran Reapers
3.) Protoss Towers building near your base

  17. Hours just after getting my pre-ordered copy at Datablitz on July 27, I just pop in the disc. Enjoyed the installation screen all thanks to Cyber Lola Basyang’s back story telling and just burned through the campaign on hard mode all throughout the week. Although I have never been quite active on the battle.net community lately, the single player and skirmishes just sucks me into addiction once again. *ahem* But of course, I finished my work first before diving into the world of Blizzard’s dangerously addictive game XD

  18. @kyle : mahal kasi you are comparing it against the price of your local pirata. but the price is dirt cheap considering the engineering blizzard has done for the game.

  19. Everybody else got it for $60. We are getting it for almost $80.

  20. The developer demo was release sometime around 2006 to or 2007. Finally, it’s here… My laptop specs could probably go for the minimum requirements but I haven’r really tried playing this game yet, only watched the videos.

  21. Quit the whining on the price. Kung namamahalan kayo wag kayoing bumili at maglaway na Lang kayo. Napopolute nag thread. Imbes na relevant and interesting comments puro Mga pirata. Mag chess na Lang kayo o clued0.

  22. @Ulv
haha. But where would they brag loudly about being able to pirate a $60 gam…

  23. I’m a fan of Starcraft. And I can’t wait to try this one. I have been waiting for this for a while now. Hopefully, will be able to play this soon.

  24. i always buy original games. and i feel sad for those who buy pirated ones. they have no money !

  25. im gonna buy an i7 pc set if they will release diablo 3! ;p

  26. there is LAN crack for starcraft 2,check netcrossing computer shop in crossing (near shangrila mall, in front of starmall mandaluyong)

I just play it with razor crack, saw it in youtube and it freakin worked! highly addicting game.

  27. I’ve been a fan of the star craft franchise since i was a 4th grader. I’ve memorized the story from adjutant training to the fall of the overmind to destruction of UED and to the rise of the queen of blades. i never owned the original game but now sc2 is out, hell, its about time for me to get a copy and surely my 3k+ php would be worth it. sure it sucks blizzard got a tie up with activision and they got greedy since WOW gave them gazillions of $$ but who cares when that satisfaction of defeating a korean in battle.net and shoving europeans’ ass with reapers ripples through your skin and “GG” pops out to wipe of your sweat. ;)

  28. I already finished it. It so addicted pero in South Korea hindi patok sa gaming dahil sa specs ng Starcraft 2. To those people who want cheat in guest player go to http://www.gamefaqs.com.

    I’m usually online during evenings…

  31. Hi, Abe. Where in Manila can I purchase a boxed copy of this game? The digital download is 1000 pesos more expensive than the boxed ones, even if you include shipping from Hong Kong Stores which sell the legal copy.

I can do this Jack Sparrow’s way, but I’d like to go legit since I NEED to play on Battle.Net without any hiccups. SEA and NA players can now play against each other, so there’s another bonus… ang problema lang natin ang mga bagal natin na “broadband” connections…
