So that’s why they’re having a sale on the 1st-gen Samsung Galaxy Tab — Samsung has officially announced an 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab that’s even thinner than the previously announced 10.1 incher.
What’s another surprise is that they’ve re-worked the 10.1″ Tab along with the 8.9″. These 2 new Galaxy Tabs are even lighter and thinner (that’s 8.6mm thin) than the recently announced iPad 2.
It’s powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, and comes with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, microSD card slot, 3MP camera that can do 720p and a 2nd 2MP front-facing camera for video calls.
The 8.9″ Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet will retail for $469PHP 27,523INR 39,748EUR 447CNY 3,414 (16GB) and $569PHP 33,392INR 48,223EUR 542CNY 4,141 (32GB) for the WiFi-only models.

Messie says:
Damn, and when I am almost 100% sure of getting the ipad2, a game changer has just arrived! at a few $ off the ipad2, the 8.9 boasts a MP front cam and a 12800 x 800 res, I am now double thinking my intentions of getting an ipad 2.
Oh, the thinner and lighter feature is also a big + IMO. If this gets to Philippines earlier than the ipad2, then sorry apple, I think you will lose a lot of supposed to be ipad2 buyers.
name says:
it’s going to be released on June 8, are you still gonna get it if it’ll be released by that time?
Messie says:
If the ipad2 is to be made available here in the Philippines on December pa (like ipad1), there is a big possibility that people who can’t wait for it will just get the new galaxy tabs.
As for me, I still have to see reviews for these tabs. If it is not as impressive as I thought it will be, then I will still get the ipad2.
lolipown says:
Where does it read that the 8.9 will be released on June 8th?
Yoru says:
@Messie so you’re going for the new Galaxy Tab now? :-) Not sure about iPad2 but the first iPad is heaaavy…
I’m wondering how much Samsung would cut the price off 1st gen galaxy tabs…
Messie says:
Not yet, I still have to see the reviews when this finally comes out. If before, I already have my eyes set on the ipad2, now, I “might” have to reconsider seeing the specs and the price of the 8.9″ galaxy tab. It will all depend on how this tablet will fare on actual terms, and of course, the availability of either tablet here in the Philippines.
But my oh my, the tablet wars now really looks promising. :)
wreek888 says:
In sure nasa 35k up na nmn price nito. Ok nako sa SGT7 at 20k phone/tablet.
John Ray Ebora says:
@wreek888 nakakapagdownload po ba ng torrent sa SGT7? up to anong max speed po ang inaabot? mga 100kb/s? i know depende un sa wifi pero sa tablet po ba umaabot ng ganong speed? :)
Messie says:
If the PR of Samsung is to be believed, the SRP above of $469 for the 8.9 and $499 for the 10.1 is global. So obviously, at the current exchange rate, these should be priced around Php20.6k and Php22k respectively.
Remember, this is a wi-fi only version. The 7″ tab was initially released with 3g and call and text abilities, not to mention a bluetooth headset (amounting around 2.5k) kaya Php35k siya nung nilabas.
j says:
wahahaha oo nga!
raymond says:
Gamechanger!
RJ says:
Yep, this is a game changer! When Samsung first showed the Galaxy Tab 10.1 at the MWC 2011, grabe di ko talaga type yung back/cover ng Tab! Pero ngayon, wow it does not look cheap at all! :-D I’m planning to get Motorola XOOM pa naman.. pero based sa nakikita ko ngayon, I would consider getting this one instead. :))
EdwinC says:
Ay, ayaw ko na iPad 2. Hintay na lang ako Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. Kailan ba talaga, kuya? At ako ay bibili.
lolipown says:
The only thing that strikes me as interesting about the new Tab is that Samsung opted to release a Wifi-only version first before the more expensive 3G-equipped model. It’s a good call on their part. They should’ve done this with the 7″.
Messie says:
This is a case of companies learning one or two from apple.
It’s all good I guess. At the end, consumers win with more choices at better deals. :)
Minmani says:
Man, that looks so slick. Still liking ipad2
oktnxbai says:
Just when Apple thought they already have the thinnest tablet on the market, Samsung surprises them from nowhere.
I like Samsung’s move especially the CEO’s comment regarding the iPad2 launch saying that the MWC Galaxy Tab 10.1 was inadequate compared to the new iPad. But then come March 22… BOOM!
World’s thinnest and comes in two form factors!
In yar fez Apple. I bet Steve is mad right now.
Herbert Mendoza says:
Visit http://www.MurangGADGETS.com I brought Samsung Galaxy Tab from that online store and it was cool. I now have my Gadget at a very low price.
John Ray Ebora says:
Benchmark says:
Try to check at CMK (http://www.cmkcellphones.com/samsunglink.html), Tab cost at P20,990.
Benchmark says:
I’ve checked at murang gadgets right now, Tab cost only 17500?! But then again, it is sold out. Is such price true?!
Jarey says:
bigla nga pong nagmura! waaah! bakit naman ang bilis, sold out agad. sana magkaroon pa sila :(
bryan mania says:
Messie says:
Boss, di po pwedeng gawing pantawag and pangtext itong version na to kasi wi-fi only. Iyung 7″ lang po iyun.
JunAlquis says:
Hahaha Steve Jobs was so proud of the thin iPad 2 then this comes along even thinner its like a big fu@%k you! too Steve lolol
nivla says:
Wow.. mukhang ito na bilhin ko kaysa ipad2…
Winziph says:
ang hirap namang mamili.
adam says:
Wow, you’ll have second thought of buying an Ipad 2 if you the specs on this 2 tabs.
charles says:
what I really like in Samsung Galaxy tab is you can view sites with flash. I can view live stream if I want. Beats iPad2. :)
john says:
skyfire can view flash videos on ipad..
anyway, i will never buy samsung products, feeling ko parang myphone lang sila..
waiting for htc to have better tablets..
plsburydoughboy says:
can’t wait to see your review for these new models when they come out.
On a side note, can anyone verify if it’s possible to use tablets like iPads and Galaxy Tabs as PC monitors? This could make an interesting alternative setup to laptops, with a tablet that would be more mobile than a laptop to carry around throughout the day and a robust desktop CPU waiting at home.
Patutz says:
Messie says:
Most likely none. Wala siya sa product features, and the price (in my opinion) was lower because they took out these features.
Patutz says:
ahh wala pala..ima stick with GT7… gusto ko kasi me phone features eh…buti nalng pla di na ko mag aantay hangat lumabas tong GT8 hehe…wait ko nalng honeycomb sa GT7 hehe sana magkaroon hehehe
Jarey says:
Jonaflormicfren says:
Samsung is anywhere with gadgets and others, their name is everywhere. http://jonaflormicfren-jonah.blogspot.com/
reagan oswald says:
when is galaxy tab 2 will be release in the Philippines?
heckiboi says:
wow, i am thinking to buy a tablet…
Benchmark says:
I saw at CMK site…they are aready selling SG7 at 16k wifi only.
I am thinking of getting one…but I prefer the SG7 with sim support…so that I don’t have to bring 2 units.
xtian says:
meh id rather get an LG Gslate/Optimus pad
raf says:
wala talagang phone feature ang 8.9 at 10.1? thanks
technobaboy says:
may sale ang samsung ngayon. all galaxy products
ganda says:
hi! which of the two is better samsung galaxy tab p1000 the 7inch tab or the new samsung galaxy tab 8.9?
GerryM says:
I went thru some specs about the 8.9 tablet of samsung and it mentioned about a SIM slot. meaning, pwede ang call and text application;
Ricson says:
you can check at PLDT-Smart Jump regarding the 8.9 they have a display unit of the 8.9 there
