Commuters on the LRT-2 can now pay their fares using contactless payment methods after RCBC, in partnership with Visa, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), officially activated tap-to-pay at station turnstiles. The discounted fare matrix, implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), applies to single-journey tickets, stored-value cards, and cashless payments starting March 23. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said airport fees will be reduced starting April 1, 2026, to help passengers deal with rising airfare costs caused by higher fuel prices. To help airlines, the DOTr also ordered CAAP to reduce navigation charges, including takeoff and landing fees. At the same time, the DOTr shared that the Philippine Ports Authority is planning a P1 terminal fee for certain vehicles carrying farm goods. Earlier, the DOTr also launched a 50% fare discount for MRT-3 and LRT-2, with plans to include LRT-1. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has rejected proposals to allow carpooling vehicles coordinated through ride-sharing and mobility apps on the EDSA Busway, citing concerns that opening the dedicated lane to private vehicles would degrade the performance of Metro Manila’s primary mass transit corridor. DOTr officials emphasized that while carpooling platforms are often promoted as smart mobility solutions, they function best on general road networks, not on dedicated transit corridors.
