The DICT is investigating whether Telegram should be blocked in the Philippines due to worries that it is being used for illicit gambling and pornography. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda reported that certain illegal gambling operators now conduct their operations through Telegram while the application maintains links to private images and videos. Aguda reported that his team faced challenges when they attempted to establish coordination with Telegram because the platform's management proved difficult to contact. Telegram is rolling out a major update for Android and iOS, bringing a redesigned interface and new features for groups, creators, and developers. Telegram redesigned its interface code to achieve better performance and faster user response times. For group owners, Telegram now supports automatic ownership transfer. Telegram, one of the world’s biggest messaging apps, is valued at around 30 billion dollars, yet it is run by only about 30 employees working from home across different countries. This small-team model works because Telegram focuses on hiring only people who can work independently without needing constant supervision or long meetings.
