Cosmic Technologies, Inc., the company behind the Cherry Mobile brand, has released a new product called the Cherry Ion. It’s a small personal air purifier that you can wear around your neck to help protect you from harmful airborne pollutants. Check out our initial thoughts below.
The Cherry Ion comes in a small package that includes the Cherry Ion unit, an adjustable lanyard, manual, and micro-USB cable charger.
The Cherry Ion unit is tiny light, measuring 68 x 38 x 16 mm and weighs in at 45 g. Our unit comes in black with a silver frame. White-Gold, White-Pink, and White-Rose Gold are also available.
The unit is made of plastic but feels well-made. The front and back are glossy, while the frame looks like it is laminated with plastic.
Up top, we can see the provision for the lanyard, and two tiny brushes on the left and right that emits anions.
Found below are the vents, the micro-USB port for charging, LED indicator, and power on/off button.
Operating the Cherry Ion is easy. Just press the power button, and you will see the LED light up. And that’s it. It doesn’t produce any noise or vibration, which is nice. You just wear it around your neck, and you’re good to go.
How does it work?
The Cherry Ion is basically an air ionizer and can emit 50 million electrically negative charged molecules or atoms called anions in the air. These anions transfer the charge to polluting particles like those that carry viruses, allergens, cigarette smoke, and dust, which then gets attracted to surfaces, pulling them away from the user’s breathing space.
Cherry Mobile says that the Cherry Ion has an effective zone of 3-feet, doesn’t require a filter, and can run from 10-12 hours on a single full charge. Charging, on the other hand, takes 2-3 hours. We already saw a few videos testing the capabilities of the Cherry Ion like one below:
But since we’re curious, we tested it ourselves by blowing smoke inside a glass with the Cherry Ion inside, and we got the same results. The Cherry Ion was able to eliminate the smoke inside the glass in a few minutes. Upon closer inspection, we can see particles on the device and on the surrounding surfaces, indicating the smoke particles are no longer airborne.
The Cherry Ion is priced at PHP 3,500 and is available for purchase at Lazada. See the listing here.
