Apple launched the Apple Watch a few days ago. It’s a premium device with its base model, the Apple Watch Sport, costing $349 (~Php15,500), and can go as high as $17,000 (~Php750,000) for the most expensive Apple Watch Edition. Crazy, I know. So to put that into perspective, we made an infographic showing how many Apple products you can buy for the price of the top-of-the-line Apple Watch Edition.
The Apple Watch comes in three variants: Apple Watch Sport ($349 to $399), Apple Watch ($549 to $1,099), and Apple Watch Edition ($10,000 to $17,000).
Author’s note:
* Apple products are shown in their current US$ prices for consistency.
* Sample computation: $17,000 / $949 (iPhone 6 Plus, 128GB) = ~17 units
As you can see, if you have the money to buy a $17K Apple Watch, you can buy ten of the recently released new Macbook and some change. Or if you don’t like Apple products, you can surely use that money for other things like getting a brand new car (SEE: 6 least expensive cars in the Philippines), or just be considerate and buy your friends gaming PCs / consoles if you’re that rich.

Mon says:
I heard that the gold in the watch would cost $3.5k, can someone confirm?
If it’s true, then you’ll still be paying $6k+ just for the apple branding even for the standard gold watch lol
HUH says:
You forgot that Apple also pays for marketing, labour, etc.
mon says:
Yea, I understand that, but what I don’t understand is that’s atleast $6k, unless it’s a high tech car or a futuristic home, it can’t justify that price for a smart watch… which its specs will be obsolete in a couple of years
a rolex watch? Yes, it can be an investment that would actually increase it’s value as it gets older… same with cars… Hell, it can even be toys just as long as they’re rare
but a smart watch? No, technology that sells today would be a bargain next year, would be free in 5-10yrs, and would be completely useless beyond that.
but that’s just my opinion, don’t let it stop you if you don’t agree with it
mon says:
Sorry, forgot your point, went on into investments when you were talking about marketing/labour costs lol
Marketing/labour/R&D shouldn’t go beyond the original price of the product you are selling
it’s ridiculous to think that your paying for a $100-$150 smart watch, with $3.5k in gold, and the remaining $6k-$13k is for marketing/labour/R&D/design/branding…
Cool says:
Because it’s apple. No need for logical explanation…. :)
For 750k, you can buy 2-3 brand new rolex watches. Or a 2nd hand dual-tone (gold and ss) rolex daytona.

Would not really mind to buy this even if im capable to do so… Hehehe
Abuzalzal says:
It’s not about the price. Apple has always been like that. It’s not about specs vs cost, it’s all about prestige and elegance and exclusivity. It’s like bashing a Lamborghini having a price tag of 100 mil php just because one can buy a better “spec’d” car for a fraction of its cost.
Yet at the end of the day, the Lambo owner doesn’t give a fudge about any of your comments as he watches you drool over his car knowing that those who hate most likely are the ones who cannot afford. So keep hating haters. Puro reklamo wala namang pambili. Haha
boybato says:
Agree! Tapos sasabihin nila na ang mga bumibili ng Apple gadgets eh “social climbers”.
Name: lol says:
there are a lot of them actually. people who buy stuff which are really out of their means just to be able to flaunt them.
but hey, whatever floats their boat. wala naman silang ginagawang masama sa iba.
Imbiyerna says:
“So keep hating haters.” –> go-to defense phrase ng mga pikon na fanboy.
Prestige and elegance? Please. Target market for the Gold Version is the new & trashy rich, like the Kardashians and the Real Housewives of Whatever Place. So ahead and splurge on that ugly thing…it’s your money anyway.
Abuzalzal says:
Exactly my point. Pera ko yun walang basagan ng trip. May pang bili ako ng basurang sinasabi niyo haha. Well ganyan naman talaga mga walang pang bili. They keep on bragging what’s not good on that product, and to think na hindi pa nga nila nahahawakan personally yung item. :) Pero nasasabi nila na trash daw yung gadget na yun just by reading the paper. Ang galing niyo hehe.
jojo says:
a branding disease! yum yum yum. lucrative brands become a status symbol only to those who could not afford them.
buy buy buy! it will make you look affluent! flaunt it so that people with lower incomes can drool over it and say – oh you are a winner! and we are all losers! yum yum yum!

Wala ka bang 17,000 dollars? Ok. Manahimik na lang kayo mga alipin.
my opinion says:
Apple is trying to make the high end luxury watch makers notice them by releasing a $17k watch. Thing is, those high end watches are practically family heirlooms as well and the value can go up with age. With tech well…. 1 year old tech is considered ancient, 5 years is probably a legend, more than that?
Well, maybe millennial. And unless its anything like a historical piece of tech sought by collectors in the future then its value will degrade, apple logo or none.
