We don’t really expect a lot whenever we encounter affordable TWS earbuds. There’s a lot of them in the market and most of them have similar characteristics, cheap plastics, mediocre sound quality, and laggy connection. However, there are times that we will encounter something that will make us raise our eyebrows and say, “Not bad!” One example of that is the Haylou GT6.
Before we dive into the device, let’s do a quick background on Haylou. It’s a brand that specializes in modish, functional, all-around, yet affordable true wireless earbuds and smartwatches. Haylou Philippines is their exclusive distributor. We’ll provide their official links at the bottom of the article.
Going back to the device, one of the things we like about it is its tiny build. It comes in this squarish case with rounded corners. We prefer this kind of case to the capsule types as it is thinner and will fit the pockets better.
It has the Haylou branding etched at the top, a USB-C port for charging, and an LED indicator on the front to indicate battery level.
Inside the case are the TWS earbuds with semi in-ear design. It’s made of plastic but has a seamless design with a glossy and matte finish.
The rounded design with flat tops and bottoms on the stems is a nice touch and helps make it look more sophisticated and easier to hold. It’s also IPX4 water-resistant, meaning it can handle sweat and rain, so you can work out indoors or outdoors.
Found on the earbuds are holes for the LED and microphones and the charging contacts. The Haylou logo also indicates where the touch controls are:
• Short tap – play/pause, answer/end call
• Double-tap right earbud – Skip track forward
• Double-tap left earbud – Turn on/off low-latency mode when playing games
• Triple-tap – activate Voice Assistant
The Haylou GT6 is easy to use. All we need to do is open the case and the LEDs on the earbuds will light up to indicate power and pairing status. It’s already discoverable at that moment, so we just open our phone’s Bluetooth settings and tap on its name. It uses Bluetooth 5.2 with a transmission range of up to 10 meters. The 65ms latency, on the other hand, ensures that the audio is in sync with what’s on your phone’s screen, which is important when playing games or watching a video.
In the ears, it’s comfortable as it is light at 3.9g each and fills the concha well, so it doesn’t fall off even when we shake our heads.
Audio quality is surprisingly good for its price, thanks to the PIXART Chipset and 12mm Dynamic Drivers. Let’s not kid ourselves though, it’s not going to satisfy the audiophiles, but we’re getting crisp and clear highs and mids without becoming tinny, and have powerful lows that are enough to provide energy to bassy tracks and action-packed scenes. If you’ve used high-end TWS earbuds before, you can immediately tell the difference, but for casual listening and gaming, the Haylou GT6 delivers well.
When it comes to battery life, the Haylout GT6 can provide up to 4 hours of playback, long enough to handle a Justice League Snyder cut. It can add 12 hours with the charging case for a total of 16 hours. Charging the earbuds takes 1.5 hours while charging the case takes 2 hours.
Let’s talk about the price. The Haylou GT6 is priced at PHP 999USD 17INR 1,443EUR 16CNY 124 and PHP 1,049USD 18INR 1,515EUR 17CNY 130 (w/ charging cable) and is available at Shopee and PrimeGoods.ph.
Given the price tags and audio performance, I say it’s a good buy if you’re looking for affordable TWS earbuds with Bluetooth 5.2 and 65ms low latency which is beneficial when gaming or watching movies.
