Just when we thought that the JBL Xtreme 3 was a great party speaker, JBL sent us another speaker specifically designed for that purpose. As the name suggests, the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go lets you party virtually anytime and anywhere with its powerful speakers, RGB lighting, and a pair of microphones. Check out our hands-on below.
JBL PartyBox On-The-Go is a portable speaker, meaning you can easily move it around or bring it with you during road trips. However, it’s not something that would fit inside your backpack. Compared to a traditional Bluetooth speaker, even to the JBL Xtreme 3, this one is huge at 19.3 x 9.6 x 8.8-in and weighs 7.5 kg. It also has IPX4 splashproof protection.
The package also contains two wireless microphones with two AA batteries each, two microphone pouches, power cables, and a strap with a built-in bottle opener.
The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go is made from a combination of metal, plastic, and rubber. It’s got a metal grill protecting the front, while behind it is the 5.25-inch woofer with an RGB ring and two 1.75-inch tweeters. The lighting profiles are too limited, though. It would have been nicer if it had the effects as the JBL Pulse 4.
On the sides are the handlebars, while below are four rubber feet.
At the back, we have a faux leather cover, a couple of straps for the microphones, and a flap that covers the power port, a USB Type-A port for your thumb drive, and a 3.5mm AUX.
Up top is where it gets busy. We have the metal hooks for the straps, buttons for the Bass Boost, Volume Up, Volume Down, Play/Pause, Power, Bluetooth, RGB lights, flaps for the microphone and guitar ports, and knobs for adjusting the mic, guitar, echo, treble, and bass levels. You can also find a slot here for placing your tablet or smartphone for easy access to your playlists.
Setup is easy. Just press the power button, and it’s already ready for pairing with your mobile device. If you need to pair it with a different device, just press the Bluetooth button to initiate pairing. The wireless microphones, on the other hand, automatically pairs to the speaker upon switching on. It has good vocal pick-up and range.
As for audio quality, it’s LOUD! Since it has a woofer, the bass is more powerful and more felt. You can even add more oomph to it by activating the Bass Boost feature by pressing a button. In our experience, the bass feels right with the Bass Boost, so we just keep it on for most tracks. Mids and highs are also crisp and clear, even in higher volumes. You can also tweak the bass and treble levels, depending on your preference. You can link it to up to two compatible party speakers with True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Bluetooth connections for a bigger sound.
When it comes to battery life, the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go can provide up to 6 hours of playtime, while charging it takes 3.5 hours. The wireless microphone battery playtime, on the other hand, is estimated at more than 10 hours.
The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go is the most exciting JBL product we have tried so far because of its versatility. We can use it to play our tunes or boost the audio of our TV, pretend to be a DJ, or use it for karaoke. If you really want an on-the-go party experience, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, this speaker is the one to get.
The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go is priced at PHP 20,999USD 358INR 30,335EUR 341CNY 2,606. See the listing here.
