E-Vehicles Are Exempted From Number Coding in Quezon City

In an effort to promote the use of electric or hybrid vehicles in Quezon City, Mayor Herbert Bautista recently signed the Ordinance No. 2398 which exempts these cars from the number coding scheme within the city.

Under the new ordinance, electric and hybrid cars, as well as vehicles that run on alternative fuels such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and retrofit technology may be exempted to the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) within the city’s premises, provided that the owner complies with the regulations of the city ordinance.

Car owners can apply for the number coding exemption by heading over to the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) office. They need to complete the application form, provide the necessary documents such as the Certificate of Registration, and have their vehicle checked by a DPOS representative.

“The measure would encourage more people to shift to alternative fuel powered vehicles which could help reduce harmful engine emissions to the environment.”

– Mayor Herbert Bautista

Once everything is set, they will have to pay about Php100 regulatory fee which will cover the administrative expense and the cost of the DPOS sticker, complete with the Mayor’s signature, that will be provided to them.

Do note though that the ordinance does not exempt unregistered alternative fueled vehicles.
