Currently, we have the Google driverless car, but by 2020 we can expect to see more of these autonomous driving technology courtesy of Nissan.
According to Nissan Motor Co.’s Executive Vice President, Andy Palmer, the company pledges that it “will be ready to bring multiple affordable, energy efficient, fully autonomous-driving vehicles to the market by 2020.”
The goal, aside from giving the car the capability to drive and navigate by itself, is to make driving safer and more efficient by automating more functions like giving the car the ability to detect red lights, quickly swerve or stop to avoid collision with another car or pedestrian, automatically turn when the turn signal is activated, or park the vehicle by itself, to name a few.
Although the company is not working with Google on the said project, Palmer also mentioned that they’re not closing their doors on the possibility.
The next challenge the company is facing now is not in the technology but in the laws and regulations. Just imagine how an MMDA traffic enforcer would react if he pulls over one of these.
What do you guys think? Is it better if we have more of these self-driving cars? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
