What’s buzzing with Google Buzz?

So I’ve added the new Google Buzz into my GMail and see if I can see some use for it. I’ve also added my YouTube, Twitter and sites like YugaTech.

Now, updates I make on those sites and accounts will also appear in my Google Buzz stream. Likewise, updates made by people (comments, etc.) will also be streamed into my Google Buzz. I only wish though that comments made on the Buzz will also be inserted into those sites (the other way around).

So, I’m looking at my Google Buzz as an stream of alerts. Other than that, I don’t see any use for it now. Feels like channel surfing.

But what happened to Google Wave? Buzz looked like a scaled down Google Wave to me. Hopefully, this won’t be another time-waster. I got some nagging privacy concerns too.

How do you find Google Buzz so far?

  1. haven’t try it yet

  2. I got both google wave and google buzz. Looks like they’re dipping on twitter’s turf.

There isn’t any option to search for friends. Or at least, I haven’t figured out that part yet.

  3. I turned it off. No reason at this time to share things, away from the usual FB, Twitter, etc.

  4. I think it’s a great idea, but it will depend heavily on how many people in your contacts have a Google account. The way I see it, it’s just like a refined Facebook news feed. Again, that can be a factor for a lukewarm reception, because people already have FB. But one thing I like about it is the public factor. It’s easy to interact with people you don’t know. Sure, there might be qualms about privacy, but as long as you don’t share anything sensitive to your personal security, you should be ok.

  5. I think a third social networking site (next to Facebook and Twitter) is just too much to maintain. So, as long as Google Buzz doesn’t interact with both Facebook and Twitter, I don’t think you can make people switch to this new service.

  6. ok…i figured out the find people part. I wish there’s a way to just follow all people I’m following in twitter.

  7. Still groping my way around it. But it’s simpler than Wave…

  8. Hi YugaTech! I’ve seen the reviews, and it’s Google’s way of adding a social experience in GMail. Yahoo and Windows Live already did this.

What’s standing out is the lack of Facebook support, and with Google Buzz overlapping a lot with Facebook’s functionality, there’s no doubt this is competing directly with Facebook.

I’d stick to Facebook. I am already managing a number of Fan Pages and Groups there, and Facebook is so organized, I can afford to stay.

  9. There’s no way to properly group Buzz into categories. It’s like reading random posts regarding totally different subjects at the same time. At least with Friendfeed, I have the option of putting people I follow into different groups, making it easier to read and correlate.

Until they have this feature, Google Buzz will be a firehose with no off button.

  10. It looks like Facebook. They should introduced something new.

  11. I’m still confused :D LOL!

  12. I just opened my gmail and saw and notified about google buzz. Just like the google wave, I still can’t see any use of it, this time.

  13. I commented on your buzz about this post, and checked out if it also appears here, but I didn’t see it here… Maybe it would be better if there’s a plugin for Google buzz

  14. I commented on your buzz about this post, and check out if the comment appears here. But I didn’t find anything… maybe it’s better if there’s a plugin for Google buzz so that buzzes will also appear as comments…

  15. I still prefer Facebook better, but then again imma be checkin’ the buzz.

It seems to be for people who are active google accounts. I only use my google account when i’m in work and thats a small number.

  16. Maybe this is part of Google’s grand plan of introducing a social network bigger than Facebook and Twitter. Much like what they did with Nexus to iPhone. But that’s just my theory. :)

  17. It’s much more like sa yahoo mail na twitter and facebook-like interface. Can’t interact with fellow twitter and fb users.

  18. Not using Google Buzz at this time; will wait ’til some more improvements are rolled out. Sticking with Facebook and Twitter.

  19. It’s a crap. A desperate measure to catch up with the growing market of social networking, just to compete with the leader Facebook, which Microsoft got some share.

  20. its not good for gmail users who needs privacy.

  21. Update on Google Buzz: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61C093201*****?type=technologyNews

  22. Buzz that bird haha

  23. For the privacy issues:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100217/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_google_buzz_privacy_complaint_5

  24. F*ckin’ intrusive!!! How do I turn the damn thing off?!?

  25. Freakin’ intrusive. Sneaky move right there, Google altered the service by suggesting these strangers and unwanted feeds you did not subscribe for. Tsk tsk. Privacy alert.
