We’ve had a short glimpse of the HTC HD7 last week but this time, we get to own one and un-boxed it ourselves. Got this at the Duty Free shop in Hong Kong last Sunday while on the way back.
I was actually looking for the Desire HD but when I saw this in the shelf, it was a toss-up. The Desire HD lost to the HD7, partly because I am told I’ll get the review unit this week anyway. Doesn’t make sense to have two of the same.
What’s interesting though was that the HTC HD7 was selling at a lower price than the Desire HD. The HD was something around Php33k while the HD7 was a little over Php31k. However, I was told the HD7 will be priced a little higher than the HD when it arrives in the Philippines in January.
This is also an opportunity for me to really make an in-depth comparison between iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 and share my unbiased opinion (Microsoft Philippines is set to launch WP7 next week).
HTC HD7 specs:

Just like IP4 HD7 loses signal and drops call.
i was actually planning to get desire hd,unfortunately htc @ sm north edsa doesn’t hes supplies yet. when do you think it will be available? which do you think is better hd7 or desire hd?
@peejay:
I think the guys at GSM Arena are too focused on Retina and Super AMOLED these days. Have not seen a real HD7, but I can imagine its display is similar to an HD2 screen. Nothing wrong with the HD2 screen.
@jm
Thanks, jm. My hands are itching to get one of these WP7 phones. I’m torn between HD7 and the Super AMOLED, Samsung Focus.
@peejay: I’m experiencing quite the opposite. The display is just great (comparing it with iPhone 4) plus response time is very quick. It’s best to tinker with an actual unit.
Looks like to be nice phone. GSMarena, published their review today, and it seems that HD7 has a sub-par display.
From the review:
”It’s the subpar contrast, subdued saturation and surprisingly weak brightness that we ’re not happy with. The screen falls obviously short of Super AMOLEDs and the iPhone ’s LCD – no doubt about that. But it’s also certain that the image quality is inferior to that of phones like the LG Optimus 7 and even the very own HTC Trophy.
And as if this is not enough – the HD7’s screen has another problem. Its response time is really poor and that ’s most prominent when scrolling listed menus. You ’ll notice it in the launcher where some kind of ghosting causes the text labels of the menu items to fade away while you scroll. The same happens elsewhere in the interface where you need to deal with lists. Quite surprisingly, this is less noticeable in the browser (as you ’re scrolling or zooming in on text) or the image gallery. That ’s what counts after all, but the unpleasant effect in the main menu (and video player, too) is nevertheless hard to ignore.”
and the conclusion:
”The HD7 has one of the poorest display we’ve seen in a while (regardless of OS and manufacturer), but if that doesn’t bug you, you are welcome to give HD7 a serious consideration – there are no compact WP7, so you might get as well the biggest screen around”.
Sir Abe, please comment on the quality of the display on the review! A poor display is a deal-breaker for me. It looks like WP7 rocks.
That’s one gorgeous looking phone! :)
Ah! Ballmer’s phone
Sir yuga, just curious…How many phones do you have now? it seems like u are a big fan of HTC phones. Sa akin na lang HTC Desire mo hehehe!
