Nokia E61i vs. Palm Treo 750

Two new 3G/HSDPA PDA phones out in the market. The recently launched Palm Treo 750 against the revised and even better version of the Nokia E61i.

The highlights:

Palm Treo 750
Palm Treo 750
240 x 240 pixels @ 65k colors
128MB / 60MB persistent user storage
2GB microSD external storage
1.3MP camera
4 hours talk time / 250 hours standby
HSDPA/Bluetooth 1.2/ IR
300MHz Samsung processor
Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC
Price: Php39,000++

Nokia E61i
Nokia E61i
320 x 240 pixels @ 16 million colors
60 MB of internal user memory
2GB microSD external storage
2MP camera
5 hours talk time / 9 days standby
3G/EDGE/GPRS/WLAN 802.11 bg/Bluetooth 1.2/USB 2.0
200 MHz ARM processor
Symbian OS v.9.1, S60 3rd edition
Price: Php24,000+

With the E61i is 37% cheaper than the Treo 750, the features above at almost close to each other. Though the Nokia model is slower in the processor (200MHz vs. 300MHz) and the connectivity (3G vs. 3.5G) compared to the one from Palm, the WiFi capability is a good addition.

I think I’m going for the Nokia E61i. What’s your pick?

Having read this I thought it was very informative. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this article together.
I once again find myself spending way to much time both
reading and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!

I still see value in Palm Treo 750. I hope Palm would revive this with thinner design. Looks better than BB.

Can anyone actually provide a good review for the Treo and the E61i?

These idiots who have commented have obviously not used both products, so there’s no point in giving one-sided reviews based on nothing but opinion and personal preference.

Daniel is obviously a Palm fanatic of sorts, and would not be qualified to give a review on both Treo AND Nokia. He’ll just end up bashing Nokia.

So if anyone has actually used both products, you are most qualified to give a review. Cheers.

    Hi Yuga,

Honestly, the more I spend time browsing and reading your blog, the more I am falling in love with it. It is quite addicting accessing your blog everyday.

I recently posted a question on your “Tracking WAP/Mobile Visitors” about any recommendation on what mobile phone should I buy and it was like an answered prayer, you posted something about your next phone.

NE61i has already captured my heart, but I am still having my second thoughts, though. Your comparison post about NE61i and Palm Treo made me to decide to get NE61i.

I am really glad I found your blog. More Blessings to you!

The only reason to get a Treo is if you use and Palm OS. I have been a Palm user for years and have many, many applications I use for productivity, organization, learning, and fun. I have carried a seperate Palm PDA and cell phone this whole time but am finally considering integrating the two with Palm’s new Treo.

Honestly, I’m not sure why anyone would want a large smart phone like either of these units without having a powerful CPU and OS behind it like the Treo to make the added size and money worth it.

The Nokia is just bigger, more expensive, and has a keypad. Not really sure how this is an advantage over cheaper Nokia models.

@ Hans – absence of QWERTY keyboard drops it off the list.

    What about the nokia E65?

I ordered a E61i one from Smart Communications (with a 2500 plan). The price at the Nokia Store is now down to Php22,995.

Both are nice, but I do not think the Palm is worth the money with the Nokia being almost half the price. I would go for the E61i.

I plan to use it to surf the web too, and the 320×240 and Nokia Mini Map browser would be a better combo than the 240×240 screen and IE for mobile.

@ Migs – I need a separate phone. One for personal and one for business.

@ Alfa – I checked but couldn’t see any good 3G phone on Plans under Php1,500.

@ iris – yes you can surf via hotspots if the phone has WLAN.

  15. Avatar for iris iris says:

sorry newb here but you’ll be able to surf with this phone if you’re on a hotspot?
