Research in Motion (RIM) unveiled today their new BlackBerry Torch 9800 handset which comes with both a full qwerty slider keyboard and a full touch-screen display.
Specs: BlackBerry Torch 9800
3.2″ display @ 360×480 pixels
512MB RAM, 512MB ROM
4GB storage (up to 32GB via microSD, 4GB included)
3G @ 384Kbps

Bluetooth 2.1
5MP autofocus camera w/ LED flash + video
BlackBerry OS 6.0
GPS w/ a-GPS support
1300mAh Li-Ion battery
The BB Torch 9800 is the first handset from RIM to run the new BlackBerry OS 6.0. However, those having units like the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100, BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 can expect to have an upgrade to BB OS 6.0 soon.
Here’s a video clip of how the new BlackBerry OS 6.0 looks like:
It will initially be available to AT&T customers this August 12 and there’s no word when it will be released outside of the US.
The unit reminds me a lot of the Palm Pre though.

Shonetelle says:
I work in the telecommunication company. I suggest that you can use the network of smart if you are in manila but outside manila use globe! because there are more subscriber in globe here in manila and the coverage is not that strong while smart has good coverage in manila but it has the lowest subscriber in manila but outside manila smart has a lot of subcriber while globe dont have that much subscriber. If you will be in the network who doesnt have much subscriber you can use the internet and all the features of the BB phone as much as you want beacuse of less competition in the network!
Kinney says:

aahziedeath says:
BB and Nokia is not even comparable, as for me. I hope this year, I can see that phone in my bag. My sister got the BB 9700 and that is really awesome! Never seen such a brand like BB. Sobrang one of kind. I agree with Clyde.
nihs says:

John says:
Hi I am interested to get BB Torch. How much does it really cost? Php41-45 K? But i came across to a seller who is actually selling it to me for USD 400 or roughly Php 18,000. Can anyone say if this offer is a hoax? Thanks!

checked BB torch yesterday in Gh. price update 37,000. :) looks like eto ang pinang tapat nila sa iphone4. same price. but i still bought iphone4. thousands of apps unlike BB limited lang.
rhen says:
ang mahal nman ng fone na ito 38,000.00 gosh! wala naman masyadong pinagkaiba sa 9700. anyway, i think mas nice ang N8 and samsung galaxy.
chris says:
I’m still waiting for the non-at&t version. I was suppose to get torch 2 weeks ago as my first BB. Turn off lang ako sa nkasulat na at&t. I bought bold 9700 instead. Hoping na may lumabas na non-att before the year ends so I can sell my bold and get a torch. But BIS from globe will work on this?
Blackberry= good stuff
dson says:
saw this in infomaxx in sm north annex.. forgot how much.. but pricey
John888 says:
@Clyde: I totally agree with you… Though I’m using 9700 and Storm I,, albeit I am looking forward to carry Torch in my pocket before the year ends and experience OS 6… According to my friends and relatives abroad it is so divine…
@Joma & G: It is now available here at home at the price of 54K… Insurance is not yet included…

Inquired from my “suki” cellphone shop in Greenhills. They’re selling this for 41k, pre-order. Sooooo expensive… But I’m in love with it!
Owen says:
i like it. those who hated this phone it think never HAD bb before. hoping for the price availability soon yuga! :D
luis alexander says:
will definitely buy this when available… great upgrade from BB 9700
Hater says:
This is just another “fail” from RIM..
allan says:
i don’t know about the design.
compared to the BB Bold 9700 (w/c i think is the best looking qwerty phone on the planet).
i think they should stick with the regular looking qwerty phones like the bold. that’s one of their strenghts (in design). i don’t know about sliders & touch screens.
just add a freakin’ FM radio!
and i’m very happy.
dson says:
i actually like this phone.
i never tried bb because it just looks so outdated.
but this is a step up. looks good too.
nothings beats webos and my pre though :P
bbboy says:
agreed with clyde, do some research. no other product is never the same with bb when it comes to hardware.
jay says:
Ohh clyde.. You are so BBerry fan boy.
limuelG says:
@clydde
haba naman sinabi mo!:)
clyde says:
first of all, to those who think that this suck because its a “slider” and a “bb touchscreen” phone, well then you suck too! of course the flex would conk off after sometime, its part of the natural wear and tear. besides, hindi pa nga naten na-tetest ung product eh nag-aassume ka na agad na madaling masira. yung ibang slide-up phone wala namang naging problema. secondly, if you worry about it being a bb touchscreen, then you haven’t been doing your research well. wala na dito yung feature na sureclick which means the torch uses a normal capacitive ts. isa pa, this is a high-end bb, so naturally the market it caters is the more upscale users. meaning, may spending power or pera and won’t worry if the device will get broken or not kasi madali lang ipagawa or even palitan. yung mga nagwoworry lang about the build-quality is yung mga low-budget peeps, not that i’m being mayabang or so, but please if you want bbm but don’t have the budget then opt for a cheaper one like the 8520. wag na masyadong mareklamo. and besides lets keep in mind that this is a bb product and bb makes some of the most solid devices ever.
jumper says:
actually it kinda looks more like the O2 XDA IIs to me.

mr. bogus says:
no.
Lyn Suarez says:
when will be the release of blackberry torch? it seems this is a good one ;)
Andre Marcelo-Tanner says:
if you wished your bold had touch this is what it would be :)
yay finally i get to upgrade, no more bad trackball
Jaycee lee says:
Same feat. Lang ng bold 9700. Is it worth the upgrade? Hmmm. Sana nasa 30k lang pag dating dito.
Joma Giron says:
Looks like its gonna be really expensive…
limuelG says:
pangit
dongv says:
not my cup of tea, IMHO looks like a china-phone clone,
no offense
Randell says:
I like the form. Vertical slider + touch + qwerty.
Alvin says:
Good looking one. Hope this arrives in Philippines soon.
Dan The Beast says:
^^ I mean in a slider…
Dan The Beast says:
Mukhang ‘di ito kikita sa taste ng pinoy. IMO, full touch and full qwerty don’t work well together.
