When the handset was shown to me by one of the Samsung reps this afternoon, I asked if it’s official or if I can take a picture of their upcoming Galaxy S i9000. Unfortunately, no photos were allowed.
Nevertheless, I was able to squeeze some more information about the model. They didn’t really told me when they’ll officially release but the hint is that it’s close to a month or two. The suggested retail price, though not final — Php32,000USD 545INR 46,227EUR 519CNY 3,971 for the 16GB model (they’ll be pushing this one instead of the 8GB model).
Samsung i9000 Galaxy S specs:
Samsung 1.0GHz processor
4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen @ 480×800 pixels
8GB/16GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
WiFi 802.11n w/ DLNA
Bluetooth 3.0 w/ A2DP
5MP autofocus camera
720p @ 30fps video recording
2nd front-facing VGA camera for 3G calls
Android OS 2.1
GPS w/ A-GPS support
1500mAh Li-Ion battery
Here are my first impressions of the unit after playing with it for some time:
So far, it’s an impressive-looking handset and with the specs that beats most other Android smartphones currently in the market.

One of the smartphones I’ve been waiting for. Hopefully worth the wait. A bit pricy though.

A month or two and possibly at 32k price range? Now I’m seriously reconsidering my intent to get an HTC Legend. Heck, it might be possible that in a month or two we might get HTC’s high end phones. Pffft! I’d have gone with SE Xperia X10 if they actually had a better product, but against the other handsets with similar specs from HTC and Samsung. Well…
Teknisyan says:
nice phone but a bit pricy. I guess we cannot tell until we really see the product itself.

a bit too expensive… looks sleek and very powerful though. impressive. what are the dimensions of this phone?
marco says:
thats a really huge phone but the price is also highly expensive..
the nokia N8 is the must-buy phone…
lesser price and specs are really well price worthy..
Lucien Tiojanco says:
Reminder: This phone’s processor is up to 4 times more powerful in some applications than HTC Legend’s Snapdragon even though both runs at 1 GHz. Plus, HTC has nothing on Samsung’s Super AMOLED screens and multimedia implementation.

Samsung needs to improve their UI. SenseUI is so much superior to Touchwiz and I am not ready to move to another UI till there is one that is competitive.

I hope you’ll be able to test this Samsung Galaxy S i9000 asap.
Kindly make a comparative analysis of these 3 Smartphones, 1. Samsung Galaxy S,
2. Nokia N8,
3. Sony Ericsson Vivaz
to help me decide what to buy next to replace my N97.
Hoping to see your analysis soon. Thank you.

thank you.

im disappointed that they made the UI iphone-like.

Ryan Ang says:
I agree with Lucien. This phone uses a processor different from the Qualcomm 1GHz processors we’ve been seeing from the offers of HTC. (Being the notable difference is better graphics processing.)
Also the Super AMOLED screen is significantly better than the usual TFT screens we see on other handsets. How many times have we made a little tent with our hand just to read what’s on the screen? The new tech makes it possible for easier viewing under very bright conditions.
pedrosantosjr says:
Expensive. According to Techie.com.ph, the Samsung Wave will probably retail for 19k. I wish the Galaxy S would be somewhere near that price point
roiji says:
@pedrosantosjr
how i wish too…
but the galaxy s is along the lines of the nexus one and the milestone or even above it, it’s not a feature phone unlike the wave…

What about the rumors on the Galaxy S with a Physical Keyboard, the interwebs say its about 50Euro’s more so thats like 35~36k for the unit. Pretty sweet price IMHO.

i think the processor now is ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor
anyway, im gonna have this phone no matter what the prize is! :D

Yeah the specs has been finalized as some sites show it. 1Ghz Hummingbird and 512MB RAM.

i just saw in pocketnow.com that this will be priced at 555 USD which is around 26k, maybe for the 8gb model. i hope samsung ph also releases the 8gb model for 26k. if that happens this will be the best bang for the buck android phone IMO
neodark088 says:
As what is posted above, samsung will be pusing the 16GB model.

Hi, i need help and advice. I wonder if there are mobile phones other than Apple’s iPhone that i can consider buying that can sync with the address book/contacts info in my mac. Samsung’s Galaxy S and HTC androids seem to be really nice. But I agree, they are pricey. Was hoping for something in the
P 10K to P15K price range but will save up if no choice.
Hope to hear some good words of advice.

@Lito Ferrer:
If you will differentiate Galaxy S from Nokia N8 and Sony Ericsson Vivaz. The Galaxy S is the winner for sure. Its specs are really hard to beat especially the ARM Cortex A8 1Ghz Processor and the 512 MB Ram with 2 GB Rom. If you’re going to use this phone, it will make you feel that you’re using a computer thanks to its processor. The specs of Nokia N8 are too low to be able to beat the Galaxy S and especially the Symbian OS of Nokia is nothing when you will differentiate it from Android. And same with the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. The Vivaz runs the outdated Symbian S60 5th Edition which is nothing compared to Symbian ^3 used by the Nokia which is even more nothing compared to Android.
Note: Nokia N8 is not multi-touch friendly at all. They even copied the style of TouchWiz UI of Samsung. The Multi-touch of N8 is too slow and laggy like LG and not all features are multi-touch. The Ovi Store is also nothing compared to the 150,000 apps of the Android OS. Another is Android is owned by Google so you will have the amazing features of Google like Google Voice search which amazed me when I first got my Samsung Galaxy S.
Price of Galaxy S:
P 27,500.00 – Unlocked , free on Plan 250 of Globe
if Nokia will release N8 with at least P 26,000 then go for the Samsung Galaxy S which beat every phone in the world even the iPhone 4.
GSMArena Reviewer says:
@titoking:
Try the Newest Samsung S8500 Wave which also have the same specs of Samsung Galaxy S only that it runs Bada OS. The Samsung Apps is also good to consider on Samsung Wave especially that it already has 14 Million Downloads of Application all over the world and it also beat the record of iPhone which achieved 1 Million units sold in 1 Year while the Samsung Wave achieved 1 Million Units sold in just 3 months. Also consider that Samsung S8500 Wave’s Super AMOLED Screen is better than the Super AMOLED of Galaxy S.
Price:
P 15,000 – P 19,000.00

The video of Samsung Galaxy S is not 720p but 1080p which is good for HDTV.

@neodark088:
The Galaxy S with hardware keyboard is called Samsung Epic 4G ( a variation of Galaxy S for Sprint Users). So far, Epic 4G is the greatest android phone with its 4G connection with a 5MP Camera with LED Flash and a recreated UI to fit your needs. It also fixes some issues in Galaxy S especially the processor. This one runs on 1Ghz processor also but its Samsung Hummingbird processor which is great. The speed of Epic 4G can be compared to an Android Phone with a very high specs which runs Android 2.2 Froyo. This is a must have phone for Sprint users. If you want Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G, try to buy it on Sprint Users on other countries.
