Core 2 Duo on a Compaq Presario

After several days of loitering about at the Mall of Asia, I finally got the new laptop I was dying itching to get. I was a little confused on which one to buy actually — can’t get them all on a tight budget but I was hoping for a 12.1″, a battery life of 4 to 6 hours, and some CPU power of a Core Duo or a Core 2. Turns out, looks and black beauty counts too! Nahhh, it wasn’t a MacBook Pro but I got something close to that.

Here’s the new rig:

Compaq Presario V3000
Intel Core 2 Duo (T5500) 1.66GHz
1 GB DDR2 RAM
60GB HDD
14.1″ WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280×800)
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950
8X DVD+/-R/RW w/ Double Layer Support
Built-in Card Reader (SD, MMC, MS/Pro, XD)
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Bluetooth
ExpressCard/54 slot
Altec Lansing Speakers

Compaq Presario V3000

I’ve been carrying it around whole day yesterday and at 5.39 lb, it’s a bit heavier than my old 12″ notebook so it’ll take a while getting used to it.

Macbook Pro

We went to Connie’s house in Antipolo for a vidcast interview so I got to place my rig beside her 2-month old MacBook Pro for a blow by blow comparison — guess who topped the swimsuit competition?

The whole afternoon was spent at Vieux Chalet eating our guts out. Really nice Swiss restaurant this Vieux Chalet, just too far to get to. Thanks to the lovely owner who treated us for lunch. This place is really worth the visit. Pictures will be uploaded later. Also watch out for Connie’s video interview anytime soon.

But they said that I need to turn on my Wireless, grrrrr, something, which I really don’t understand, What do I need to do? Does it need further configuration or do I need to buy some stuff to connect to my laptop? It says that has Intel Wireless Pro? is it the thing I can use to have WI-FI or I need to configure more….. please help me…..

  13. Marc says:

Hey Abe, if you have time maybe you can do a review on an Hp Dv6000 (Core2 15.4″WideCSV nVidia7400 WebC WiFi+BT) laptop that sells for Php85,888 at Cooltoyzph.com website.

    http://www.cooltoyzph.com/viewitem.php?iid=385

Compare this with yours and let us know if this is a good buy. Let me know na rin kung san mo nabili yung sayo. Thanks!

  14. pinoymoneytalk says:

Cool. This too was one of my options for my new laptop. I was thinking of buying this model anor d HP Compaq nc4400 or Fujitsu Lifebook S7110. I settled for the Lifebook just because it has Core Duo and weighs only 4 lbs.

  15. elmer says:

    Abe,
5lbs is (IMO) little bit heavy for a notebook but i hope you’re not using it full time on the road but if you do get a nice and light notebook backpack, Congrats!!

  16. Abe Olandres says:

Yeah, I’ve seen that Blue Cobalt and the specs were good. Stock price of this Presario was Php69.9k plus 3.5k for added 512MB RAM.

Acer actually has a similarly spec’ed rig but tops it with a separate 256MB nVidia card and built-in webcam — same price but the Presario had the beauty I can’t resist.

Battery life is just over 3hrs with 1 year warranty.

I was actually eyeing the MSI S272 originally.

  17. Shutter Box PHilippines says:

    @Abe

Nice new toy! How much were you able to get it?

Did you avail of the extended warranty? I think they used to call it CarePaq.

    @Dusty

Is blue cobalt the brand or the model? The specs looks good but isn’t that a desktop model fitted on to a laptop’s body?

  18. markku says:

Congrats. Dami pera ah, mukhang manlilibre to soon… ;)

    How’s the battery life?

Di ako nakakain ng mga luto ni Connie! Sama ako next time. :)

  19. Dusty says:

Nice! But the Blue Cobalt would’ve given you more for your money. Saw it at the Mobile Pilipinas Show in ATC.

    Here are some specs: (P79,995)

hopefully presario doesn’t use sony batteries… have fun with the new toy…

  22. kid says:

  23. Abe Olandres says:

    @ rose

    ahh yes! just a MacBook.

    @ noemi

really nice place there, and the food is just awesome.

    @ touche

Php74k because of added 512MB RAM. Yup, pretty much a notebook bought by blogging. ;)

  24. ade says:

    *drools*

  25. touche says:

how much is it?and where did you buy it? is this the laptop that blogging bought too?lol

  26. rose says:

Judging from the pic, the one with the cat wallpaper is a Black MacBook not a MacBook Pro.

  27. Noemi says:

you have a new toy to fiddle with. Let me see, who won? MacBook Pro?

I’ve been to View Chalet in the mid eighties when I was pregnant with Lauren. That place has been around like forever. Kudos to the owner.
