RedFox Technologies announced over the week-end the availability of its long-overdue tablet PC — the RedFox WizPad. First mentioned back in July, the WizPad is a 10-inch tablet running an Intel Atom CPU and Windows 7.
We got to check out one at an SM Appliance Store yesterday to see it first-hand and to get the suggested retail price.
RedFox WizPad
10″ capacitive display screen @ 1024×600 pixels
Intel Atom N455 1.6GHz
Intel GMA 3150
1GB DDR3 RAM
16GB SSD
WiFi 802.11 b/g
2 USB 2.0 ports
SD card slot
There’s a G-sensor that allows you to flip the screen 360-degrees and auto-orients the display accordingly, much like the iPad.
Though there is an open slot for a 3G SIM card, it does not have a modem installed. The sales rep says, it’s optional and can be upgraded at point of sale. Claimed battery life is around 6 hours.
RedFox also promises larger capacity models like a 32GB SSD storage and 2GB DDR3 RAM in future releases. RedFox mentioned before that this is gonna be a multi-OS tablet which is technically true considering it’s got the guts of your typical netbook. You can probably easily install Meego or Ubuntu in here via the USB port (or maybe even Android).
This particular model comes pre-installed with Windows 7 and has a hefty price tag of Php31,999USD 545INR 46,226EUR 519CNY 3,971.

This means SM appliance store can install the modem? so this would be an additional cost probably 2-3k more? how is the claimed battery life?
another DOA tablet?

31K for this?… good luck redfox! I know there is still craze for iPad like gadgets, but it will come to a point just like mobile phones na touch screen are just normal and pricing are affordable.

I could get an iPad with that same price, iPad is the innovation while Red Fox tablet is the emulation. Red Fox tablet would be worthy if they slash its price, if not then the iPad is always the better choic. simple arithmetic

Essentially a netbook sans keyboard and crappy hdd ? The price is quite excessive though.
Would be better if they just allocated an internal compartment where you can plug a USB drive or two loaded with an OS reducing the cost.
Also IIRC Windows 7 requires around 15gb of disk space which is extremely constricting with that 16gb SSD. Would be better with a customized GNU/Linux OS installed to save space (requires around 3.5gb~6gb for decent operation leaving the rest for /home)
The lack of modem is another deal breaker.
