Globe 3G: 5 Pesos for 15 minutes!

This just in. Got a message from someone inside telling me Globe /3G/HSDPA (myGlobe GPRS and myGlobe Internet on your mobile phone settings) has moved to time-based charging. That’s 5 pesos for every 15 minutes! It’s about time.

To activate this new charging scheme, just send text “time” to 1111. You will then get a confirmation that you’ll be charged Php5.00USD 0.09INR 7EUR 0.08CNY 0.62 for every 15 minutes (activation within 1 hour), otherwise you’ll still be billed on a per KB basis.

Been telling them to shift to this price scheduling for the longest time. Weird thing is, subscribers can actually go back to the per KB charging if you want. But who would want that?

Update: It’s already up on their site too.

Globe 3G

*Time Browsing Rate is open to Globe Prepaid, Postpaid Consumer Accounts, SME and Corporate accounts. Not applicable to subscribers on Data Plans (i.e. Visibility). Time Browsing rate effective upon receipt of text confirmation. Succeeding connections will be charged P5 for 15 minutes. If disconnected within the 15 minutes, reconnection will be considered a new session charged at P5. No refund will be made if disconnected before the 15mins are up. Applicable to browsing within the Philippines only.

  1. This is goodness, a time to follow Smarts P10=30mins. It’s time to install Opera for phone again.

  2. Oh no! That’s Laptop Bag…. Don’t get confused…

  3. > Weird thing is, subscribers can actually go back to the per KB charging if you want. But who would want that?

I’d still want to use per KB charging when posting blog entries.

The price looks attractive but we’re still all after the quality of their service, which is quite frustrating on any provider in our area.

  4. i just bought a smart sim last week because my data cost me over seven k in one weekend in cebu. Glad to not have to switch sims anymore. Go nokia e51

  5. 3G only? not GPRS?

  6. good thing i switched to globe

  7. Off Topics..

Where is your Pinoytopblog badge? did you opt to remove it?

  8. Good news!

  9. It’s about time!

  10. Good to know about this. thanks for the heads up Abe.

  11. ah finally. Smart 3g can be unreliable sometimes.

  12. Thanks for the heads up. I would’ve stayed with SMART because of the data rates but signal strength is weak in our building. I was forced to switch to Globe (and I’m more annoyed with Globe than with SMART).

  13. Hi Yuga! Thanks for the heads up.

FINALLY!!! Like you I had been bugging Globe through their CSRs on why they could not go time-based when Smart, for the longest time, was on it. Got a lot of blah-blah excuses. This is LONG overdue.

In fact, when I went out of town last Dec, had to buy a prepaid Smart SIM just to be able to do internet browsing at internet cafe rates.

  14. from what i understand, there will be a charge of P5 for every 15 minutes, so if I got disconnected within 15 minutes then reconnect still within 15 minutes, this will only be Php5. correct me please if i took it wrong…

  15. I have tested globe 3g in my cellphone but still can’t work it as a modem on my macbook.

  16. How do I switch back to per KB after switching to time based? It would be great if this was possible since I can taylor my GPRS consumption depending on my current style of usage.

    Heavy Usage/Surfing/Chatting = Time Based
    Monitoring/Standby (IM) = Per KB

    @noemi
You need the Nokia ‘PC’ Suite to be able to use the Nokia Phone’s GPRS/Internet Access Points.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure if Nokia has a MAC compatible version of it.

  17. Was trying to connect using my Globe! Its a good thing they finally released the same charging as smart. However; since I’m using it while mobile, I always get disconnected. What’s so frustrating is that the system kept on charging me for every re-connection. Initial conclusion is that they are not really time-based but session-based. In any case, Im still exploring it.

  18. I have a friend who’s using Mac. he’s trying out a Nokia phone with i-Sync. and here are detailed instructions on how to use your Nokia phone with MAC (posted in Nokia website). haven’t tried it myself, maybe i should try borrowing my friend’s MAC if he allows it, hehehehehe. here’s the link – http://europe.nokia.com/A4516030
    hope this helps

  19. Just some follow up info …

Called their Customer Support and found out the ff:

    – To revert back to per KB charging, text “KB” to 1111

    – For Prepaid Accounts: If you get disconnected prior to the end of the 1st 15 mins, and reconnected right away you still get charged another P5 for a brand new 15 mins session.

    – For Postpaid Accounts: You only get charged P5 no matter how many times you reconnect within the 15 minute period.

    – If you are using the TIME BASED charging, you will get charged no matter what site you go to. That means you get charged the same if you visit the Globe Home Page, Yahoo sites and other wap sites that were supposed to be free if you were using the per KB charging.

  20. @noemi, let me know if you have tested the globe 3g on your mac :D
can you connect to instant messaging services? how about accessing cPanel and other stuff? I’m thinking of getting this one :)

  21. Globe has unrestricted access to all ports unlike SMART … so I guess the answer to karla’s questions is probably yes.

  22. @Dusty,
thank you for your answer :)

  23. duda ako sa disconnect thing nila.
parang pag na disconnect ka bigla kahit di pa gamit 15 mins mo pag nag reconnect ka charge ulit 5 yun.

naubos 40 pesos ko in less than 30 mins e!

    try nyo.

  24. Globe’s internet promo should be written this way:

    P5 for every DC. :)

I will just use my Smart line instead. At least i will be able to know how many P10 was charged to my account. Its do stupid that even on your first minute, once your disconnected, you need to pay another P5.

Common Globe embrace the time-based charging fully and not offer something just to compete.

  25. I didn’t know about it until today, when I called their CS line– it was advertised on the voice prompt. I asked about it in addition to the concern I had, which prompted me to call, and the CSR verified that for potpaid subscribers, you can connect and reconnect anytime within the 15 minutes span. On my way to work, I tried it right away. I think I found a catch to it (there’s always one, as with Smart- where you can’t download contents from free sites such as GetJar and Mobile9) while using an IM client and my in-built browser at the same time, it disconnects after each 15-minute session. Please confirm if you encountered the same thing. My phone’s IM client does not connect automatically without asking permission, and it does ask for permission after every 15 minutes.

  26. naasar ako,,its not working for downloading??,,bkit gnun??png surf and chat lng ba to??mas mganda pa rin smart although mas mabilis ang globe..

  27. @pol
are you a prepaid user? ’cause I am, haven’t checked it yet ’cause I’ve been browsing continuously for 2 straight 15 mins, and the charge is exactly 10 pesos naman. hmmm…will try this so i can check.

  28. I tried it yesterday…unfortunately I experienced unstable connection. It seems that every 15 mins. it disconnect. But the Nokia PC suite showed otherwise. Unreliable when ur downloading/updating application updates.

  29. if you want to surf with Globe in 3g/HSDPA speeds, u need to have a separate postpaid 3g/HSDPA plan with them.that’s the bottom line.
im a 3yr postpaid Globe subscriber and according to them, if you want 3g surfing access, u need to sign up for their 3g/hsdpa plan.

no thanks.for mobile browsing, stick to Smart.

  30. i cant connect with my samsung omnia…
    anyone can help me?
error connections evrytime i try to connect..

  31. Hi yuga. i’m foreigner. I’m using HTC Touch HD and Iphone (international version). But i don’t know how to set 3G for my cellphone. I’m using Smart and Globe. Please help me. Im not good in Enlish so i dont want to get help from Center Service. Can anyone help me. Thanks!

  32. could anyone help me? i bought a globe tattoo but cant browse faster than 3G

  33. hello peeps,
here’s something you can try to improve the reception of your USB modem. I tried it using Globe Tattoo, and it worked for me. Check the link from my blog :)

  34. Let me quote you Yuga,
“Weird thing is, subscribers can actually go back to the per KB charging if you want. But who would want that?”

Actually, i am definitely into the mobile thing right now. just to look for whats showing in the cinemas or for certain games in Facebook(Mousehunt). I think time browsing is the smarter choice, but at how lousy the signal, the “kb” transfer is, i’ll not rather used it for anything “heavy”.

  35. Smart3gs for iPad @ 999 unlimited for 6 months I think it’s cool

  36. Been telling them to shift to this price scheduling for the longest time. Weird thing is, subscribers can actually go back to the per KB charging if you want. But who would want that?
