It’s finally here, Smart Bro is now offering unlimited 3G access for a monthly flat rate of just Php1,500. That, and the earlier announcement that they’ve upgraded their network to speeds of up to 2Mbps.
Yes, that’s surf all you want. The Php1,500 a month is a pretty attractive price actually. Banners/flyers from the official website reflect the new pricing plans.

For Nemz.
Yuga, hope you don’t mind me replying to this.
If you are a hardcore gamer, getting a USB or Wireless internet is not a good idea. The DSL line connection is more stable. Wireless has other factors such as weather, line of site and all that. Signal fluctuates in a day, in an hour or a minute though it is consistent most of the time.
So if you are a gamer and you plan to use it for that particular purpose, you will only get disappointed. I am also sharing from what other gamer friends have experienced and switched back to the hardlines of DSL.
Hope this helps.

@Eduardo
Yes, I’m afraid. “Plan 1500 is on hold,” according to customer reps at Smart Wireless Centers in SM Megamall and Ayala Avenue.
On the other hand, Smart call center agents say the plan is still available. If it is indeed available, I will apply for the plan.
Eduardo says:
Wow! I hasn’t even been a month since it was launched, and now it’s on hold?
Peter says:
The 1500 package does sound very interesting. I inquired about this at Smart Wireless Centers. Unfortunately, customer care representatives said the plan is currently “on hold.”
Jam says:
So they’ve upgraded their speed? I see no change in the connectivity. In fact, it even got worse.
BigBird says:
@ yuga
Seems to know more than SMART CS, I suggest to charge them double!
Abe Olandres says:
@Jay – I meant the new unlimited plan is nationwide. As for the network coverage itself, I still doubt it.
Jay says:
@yuga comment #10
“that this is nationwide and covers all areas.”
they wish! should upgrade all I mean ALL. Read: ALL their networks supporting 3G not repeaters.
Abe Olandres says:
@aldrin – I suspect Smart has upgraded their HSDPA to at least 3.6Mbps you only get better speeds if your cellphone’s HSDPA chip supports that speed or the 7.2Mbps. The latest 3G dongles can support up to 7.2Mbps HSDPA.
@amiel – yes, I believe you can. The Smart Bro SIM cards start with a prefix 0929.
@herbert – they have had drivers for Xandros a long time ago and the CD installer has support for Mac OSX too.
@Migs – got a confirmation directly from their Corporate Communications that this is nationwide and covers all areas.
mr nice guy says:
Good news for internet surfers. I thought Smart Bro won’t give in to a monthly fixed rate.
IAM says:
I have just recently availed of this service. They’re still offering it. Maybe the hotline may have just been misinformed. It works on leopard, I don’t know about xandros though. It can capture faster speed since the modem is hsdpa/hspa, your phone has to hsdpa/hspa capable in order to get better speed.
MiGs says:
Hi Abe,
Can you clarify with Smart Bro if they are offering this nationwide or just in selected areas.
I’ve already blogged about their unlimited promo however, when i was about to get one, the rep from the smart bro hotline said that the unlimited plan has been discontinued. Then, i went to a smart wireless center here in Davao and they said that they are still offering it.
So i came in the conclusion that its only offered in selected areas.
Try calling *1888.

Andre Marcelo-Tanner says:
ah good free unlimited 3g and 3.5g, now when will it get better coverage :)
online entrepreneur says:
This is great. The monthly rate of 3G is acceptable and it includes the dongle already without buying it. But I still doubt the reliability of the connection.
herbert says:
abe, does smart have drivers for xandros and leopard?
Amiel says:
Can i surf the net using my cellphone n82 using smartbro 3g?
Aldrin says:
i am still hesitant to avail another 3G service. 3G signal in Dasmarinas is not good. still Very slow. I connect using my nokia phone though. I don’t know if it’s gonna be faster using the bundled modem. Is it?
Nick says:
I hope this has better connectivity than Globe Visibility. Tried GV in Cebu’s IT park and the connection is still bad.
