We were the first to break the news last week about the new Smart Bro Rocket 12Mbps so we followed it up with Smart today.
It’s now official and you can get the prepaid SmartBro Rocket for Php3,995 (no lock-in period but is locked to the Smart network).
You should also see this poster in stores where it’s available.
Internet rates starts at Php10 per 30 minutes and you can just use the normal loading system. The Smart Bro Rocket will be available for sale at Smart Business Centers starting Monday. Remember though, there are only about 154 HSPA+ sites across the country (Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, etc) so don’t expect it to reach 12Mbps anywhere else.
Note: You can check the complete list of Smart HSPA+ sites here.

Allan Caluste says:
I’ve been using this everyday since August, and i’m getting consistent speeds between 2mbps to a high of 6mbps on a good day. Unlisurf still works for me (50 pesos whole day, 200 pesos 5 days). On the status, it connects as HSPA, but there were a few times when I saw it connect as HSPA+. DL speeds are fast, skype is really good. Sites known for heavy bandwidth consumption are throttled down unfortunately (eg youtube, torrent). Hope the unlisurf sticks para sulit.
What says:
Tanga lang ang bibili nito. 12MBPS tapos Walang unlisurf ? Mabilis nga net mo, mabilis rin load mo.. SMART, Wag niyong gawin tanga mga tao
jhune says:
how much is this? I want to buy can you give me the cheapest but sulit in terms of speed? thanks
Mark says:
Sir Yuga ayos ba speed nito sa baclaran, parañaque city??
adrian says:
I recently bought SmartBro Rocket Plug-it and I’m happy to say that VPN would work with your rocket plugit! HOWEVER, when you follow your VPN provider’s information on connecting to the network you will get the speed of normal smart plug it. see… because the original profile of smartbro for rocket plug it has an APN of “smartbro” versus the APN suggested of VPN providers which is “internet”. The access point is different and probably the reason why surfing on APN-internet is slower compared to the default Rocket-APN
mizzeg says:
it sucks i got one super bagal naman.. kahit na may site sa lugar namin ng HSPA super bagal padin.. i hope soon maayos ng SMART to para di naman medyo nakakahiya sa mga subcribers.
Aris Sison says:
Does SmartBro Rocket work on Mac Lion?
Jon says:
sobrang slow at mahal ng internet dito sa Pinas…sa Korea I have 100mbps tapos I’m only paying around P600 per month…unlimited pa yun meaning I can download GBs of movies and etc…na-miss ko tuloy ang Korea
Picolohk says:
And I bet peer to peer will be throttled down to 120kbps
Info says:
Good thing its openline as yugatech have said and tested, just switch your smartbro sim to sun broadbandsim and subscribe the 100 unlisurf for 3 days compare with smart 200 unlisurf for 5 days and globe unlisurf 220 for 5 days. i havent tested it yet with other sims, might as well test it replace the smart with sun.
Leslie says:
Sayang wala man lang HSPA+ site sa Bulacan. Smart gising gising din!
Doc Nato says:
I also got the smart rocket from megamall… I also asked the one who gives the number.. he said “hung friday pa nag po naming iniintay di pa run dumadating” then i asked the one from the cashier… meron na daw! I was so excited when i plugged it in my mac (osx lion) to my surprise… it was asking for an update then tells me I’m not connected to the internet even though i am… tried downloading drivers for huawei, di gumagana…. took me 5 hours to figure it out.. until i downloaded the java runtime for osx lion… ayun! gumana run sa wakas!!! its already 12midnight ngayon pa lang magtetest… got only 1.8kbps from speediest.net even though there’s an HSPA signal here in eastwood… I’ll try in St luke’s Q.C. tom!
Allan Caluste says:
Speed is quite decent though. I live in Pasig where there is HSPA coverage and I get 5 mbps from speedtest.net. 12mbps is still a dream.
Allan Caluste says:
I got one from Smart Wireless Center in Megamall. The staff at the entrance have no idea what it is, when it is going to be available. I had to go and get a number to ask a Sales personnel about it. I asked for their fair use policy and got this info: a) the P10 per 30 mins is available for a limited period. Starting Oct 1, rocket users will have volume packages as default charging. b) No unlimited internet packages (no unlisurfs) c) Volume packages suck (max at 2GB for 30 days @ Php995), default of 180MB for Php200
mike says:
what the hell! They gave and.advertised fast 12Mbps speed then cap.it at MB and max 2Gb a month?! Do the math. It just means your thousand pesos is gone in a few hours! THIS IS ONE BIG MONEYMAKING VENTURE!
mike says:
big and important question is. Is there at least a 7 day trial period to check and if we are not satisfied return the product no questions asked? Smart and PLDT is very hard to trust nowadays with reputation of giving poor service in the past. This company is there to satisfy their shareholders at the expense of poor paying consumers hard earned money.
Les says:
Can you use this product when youre out of the coverage area? I mean gagana ba ang 3G or GPRS?EDGE signal?
BBM says:
For sure sa umpisa lang maayos yan and soon service will also sucks!!!
bb says:
is it possible to switch my smart bro plug-it with this one?
Paulo says:
Wala naman cap ang smart kaya ayos to kahit prepaid.
Pinaywebdesigner says:
Wish Sun would also offer something like this then we can compare all 3 Networks (Smart, Globe, Sun)
VP says:
meron na sa ibang smart center… kakakuha ko palang kanina sa sm san lazaro… kaso 5 lang daw yun deliver… limited stocks!!!
tope says:
probable how many kilometer away from the site can be covered by this HSPA+ signal? thanks
Pampanga says:
The residents of Pampanga are earnestly asking Smart Telecom to consider expediting the roll-outs to our province, particularly in Angeles City.
We’re really anticipative of any updates on this matter.
Thanks!

PNOY says:
As of now this is a better deal compare with Globe’s up to 10Mbps only with a monthly plan of 2,199. Globe has not yet release any prepaid with their latest broadband. I guess they are just waiting for the release of Smart’s rocket prepaid so they can decide what marketing strategy they will do next. Hope Globe will make it lower to a price of 2,990 compare with Smart’s 3,990.
michael says:
UP DilimaN! Yehee!! XD
siliconbully says:
marketing: 5 stars
service: 1 star
Mike says:
Oh! Kala ko ba 4G LTE pinili ng smart. Ba’t nakigaya na rin sila sa GLOBE sa HSPA+
DJ says:
Hi Boss Yuga – So since 4g na ang SGSII, Will it actually be able to automatically pick up the 4G signal na 12MBS bandwidth? anything else required? Sim?
DJ says:
Tnx a lot sir!
Abe Olandres says:
@DJ – yes it can but you will need the Smart Rocket SIM to go with it.
deuts says:
Ung Sapido GR-1222 ba gagana dito?
Abe Olandres says:
@deuts – HSDPA/HSUPA yung Sapido e. Not HSPA+.
variouztrickz says:
can anyone explain to me the broader definition of HSPA+ in layman’s term. THANKZ
Name: says:
SIr,
Would you know if Samsung Galaxy SII can take advantage of the 12mbps signal broadcasted by Smart when it launches?
If yes, what are the requirements? Thanks in advance.
Rmil Chua says:
Does it mean that the whole metro manila is coverd by HSPA+?
raul barrios says:
Sir Yuga, is HSPA+ available here in Iloilo?
petken says:
Sir yuga meron akong nung myfi ng huawei from yugadeals dati… Gamit ko smart sim I’m getting HSPA+ signal with mga 3-4Mbps… So ibig sabihin yung area namin pde mag up to 12Mbps?
Abe Olandres says:
@petken – it’s not HSPA+ so di aabot sa 12Mbps. I think Smart Power Plug-It max speed is 3.6Mbps lang.
goodha says:
bilib na talaga ako dito kay sir abe/yugatech. if igoogle mo about smart bro rocket plug it, ang unang lalabas ay yugatech of being the first source. if the speed is the up to 12mbps, then what is its guaranteed minimum speed all the time?
i think you will only experience the “up to 12mpbs” if you are beside a hspa+ capable cellsite and your are surfing during the early hours of the morning.
mike says:
uhm…. is there a list of where the 154 HSPA+ base stations are exactly located?
Emman says:
Just been to Smart Center in SM North, nagtanong ako regarding this one. SHOCKER!!! Sabi ng rep nila sakin wla pa daw silang info na may 12mbps na smart bro…Tsk, tsk.. She asked me where did I get the info, I told her sa yugatech. She replied “buti pa yang source mo alam, kami di namin na may ganun na pala”….
Hmmm, ano kaya ibig sabihin nito?
A) Abe is much, much more trusted by smart big wigs
OR
B) Smart don’t familiarize their own employees
ciao…
joel says:
Cguro kulang sa info drive ang mga smart employees.
Where makakahanap ng list ng smart sa 154 nilang HSPA+ area? Any idea @abe???
Jin says:
Yet another new technology. The issue on 3G networks is not yet solve now smart introducing another tech. Let’s see how this works, cannot yet judge it by now.
Erin says:
Telcos will offer the 4G option because it is a way to alleviate the 3G congestion. Think of it this way: currently nagsisiksikan lahat sa 3G hi-way, then nagbubukas sila ng bagong 4G hi-way para lumipat doon yung iba at lumuwag ng konti ang mga nasa 3G hi-way.
:)
heatmt11 says:
sir yuga natanong mo ba talaga kung pwede mga unlisurf sa rocket plug-it? kasi nagtanong ako kanina standard charges lang daw talaga whicj is P10 for 30 minutes. hindi daw pwede mga unlisurf.. please clarify this to smart please.
Abe Olandres says:
@heatmt11 – just confirmed it, available sya with Unlisurf200 for 5 days.
hubes says:
what is the cap of smart prepaid unli surf?
heatmt11 says:
i think walang cap ang smart bro.. smart bro gamit ko eh.. sa globe kasi may 800mb limit
rcg says:
May list ba kung alin places ang covered?
brymarti says:
yung 4k na yan
bababa pa yan pag dating ng ilang months :D
Rich says:

dan says:

Abe Olandres says:
@dan – yes
Rygel says:

Abe Olandres says:
@heatmt11 – yes some base stations in Cebu City have been upgraded to HSPA+
zer0ice says:
I’m wondering if they’re going to allow other devices, e.g. current postpaid SIM, HSPA+???
Any news on that, Sir Abe?
xytherion says:
so that means our current sims are not supported?
Abe Olandres says:
@zer0ice – I am told the SIM that comes with it are pre-programmed to support the HSPA+ network.
jonas says:
still thinking of buying one vs globe. which is better?
