Sapido 3G Router vs. SmartBro Share-It

Recently bought this Sapido Mobile 3G Router so I can compare it with the SmartBro Share-It WiFi router I use in my car and see which one makes for a better mobile internet set-up.

For about a year now since I got the SmartBro Share-It, it has found its place inside my car wherever I go around the city.

I tried bringing it up north on long trips and it was still working in Bulacan and down south, as far as Sta. Rosa. We even manage to make it work until the end of the South Luzon Expressway.

The problem with SmartBro Share-It is that they lock you to a certain location (or base stations) so when you travel outside that area of coverage, the device will no longer work or have access to internet. In my case, my Share-It is registered and locked in Makati City.

When that happens, I switch to a USB dongle or tether to a phone for 3G internet. But that means only one device at a time can have internet connection (although you have alternatives like this and this).

So here comes Sapido, a mobile 3.5G WiFi router which I’ve been reading about since last year. It works just like SmartBro Share-It but unlocked so you can also use your Globe Tattoo or Sun Wireless Broadband USB dongle with it.

And on top of having an AC adaptor and a car kit, it also have a DC socket so it’s possible to hook the device to an external battery or power via the mini-USB port. That means I can plug this to that Energizer XPal X18000 Power Pack and get that truly mobile WiFi 3G set-up I need.

Got the Sapido for Php3,300 in one store (near CDR King) in VirraMall, Greenhills this week-end. The car kit is optional for Php200.

will it work for PLDT Weroam? I recently bought the tplink MR3420, and I’m having a hard time getting the weroam work. checked with PLDT the APN, dial-in number, userID & password but still cannot get an IP from their server. Same thing with EDIMAX.

Is there any alternative other than that sapido brand.

  12. Webwonker says:

Take note that you dont need to shut down any existing routers when you use the Sapido. You can change its IP or configure it in Acess Point mode only which means you can use it to extend the range of your existing router/WiFi AP. The Sapido can also be used to WiFi enable your USB printer or USB HDD.

paul: What’s the name of the store where you purchased this?

If you’re referring to the Sapido, Abacus Microcomputer. (02)727-3172

I’m using a CradlePoint CTR350 3G router with Smart 3G for backup purposes (not needed very often). I’ve used it with a Huawei E156C and also a Huawei E220. Works fine.

  16. Herce says:

Nice review, thanks! I did not realize that about the shareit, that it was locked to a region. I’ve been using my phone as mobile hotspot in car LAN but using this device is very clevet. I will follow your advice.

Do you know where in Makati/Bonifacio that sells this?

  17. cj says:

You may as well forget buying the Sapido: it will not work if your house has a circuit breaker…

  18. Sherwin says:

Abe, how do I use the smart bro share it in a usb dongle? Mind sharing the settings? Apn, username and password? Thanks!

  19. Cheftonio says:

bought mine last may 10. same price. it heats up pretty quickly so what I did was, attach a USB fan dun sa remaining USB port hehe.

Same ip(?) siya sa linksys so if you have a linksys at home, you cannot configure sapido. you must turn off your linksys router first before you can access the sapido router.

    Just sharing :)
