For about a week now, I’ve been road testing Globe’s 3G service. Marc was already sold to the idea of getting 1.8Mbps directly to his laptop so he finally signed up for one. Me, I’m still thinking about it but the last couple of days have been very positive especially after several trips around Metro Manila and two out of town trips.
Thus far, all I can say is that driving down south from Magallanes to Sta. Rosa Exit (SLEX) thru Silang had a good 70% 3G coverage (Tagaytay however, can only serve up GPRS/EDGE). The NLEX route was even better — more than 90% 3G coverage (EDSA to SBMA) and these tests where done while cruising at the rate of 80 to 140kmph.
If you think you’ll need some more *umph* to your mobile connectivity, Globe Visibility’s Php2,000 MSF could be worth it.
More on this when I’ve completed my road testing…

Wag sa Megamall please! I remember when I was inquiring about their corporate only plan a few months back (since I wanted to get accounts for the team), their sales person gives me the look and says “for corporate users only sir”. Ouch!
I highly recommend The Hub at Podium.

Hi Abe,
Have you tried VoiP on this connection? Skype? YM/MSN Video conferencing?
I’ve heard some rave reviews from other non-techie friends on the download speed but not much has been said about upload speed.
Abe Olandres says:
Yup, go to one of their business centers and bring your Macbook. I think they will hook you up there and test if it’s compatible with your rig. Just tell them you’d like to see how fast it really is — am sure they’ll be happy to do a demo.

abe,
yehey….ummm globe…free trial for us Mac (or MAC or mac) users? ehem ehem….
hehe
Abe Olandres says:
@ noemi and bimbo
They have this USB version which I think is compatible with the Mac. Inquire kayo sa Megamall as suggested by Marc, baka puede rin kayo mag test using your MacBook.

It’s Mac not MAC

Hay I have a mac but I read that they will have a MAC compatibility by January 2007. I’m hoping to get one when it comes

Wow, Globe is truly making good progress on its new wireless services. The MSF is worth it, problem is I don’t have a laptop to use it with. ;)
