MSI Wind WiFi Problem?

Was fixing the built-in wifi device of the MSI Wind for several hours now to no avail. The problem is that the wifi just wouldn’t detect any wireless connections even if you’re already beside the router.

I’ve already searched for related problems and read on forums that there’s a sizable number of MSI Wind owners are having the similar problmes with the wifi.

I’ve also tried re-installing the device drivers as well as downloading and running the latest version from MSI’s website. Still nothing.

MSI Wind Wifi Problem

The system seems to be registering the right hardware but the wifi just could not detect any signal (AP). I’m thinking of several work-around — like looking for older versions of the driver, running a 3rd party wifi manager, among others.

MSI Wind Wifi Problem

Any other MSI Wind owners here that can share some info regarding the wifi? Maybe also check the driver version you are using. Or point me to a downloadable wifi drivers I can use for Windows.

For the meantime, I’m hooking up my spare Linksys USB WiFi dongle into the Wind (I knew that dongle will be very useful one day).

It seems pretty common place. You will have to disable Windows’ wireless (Wireless 0) and use Realtek’s wireless utility which isn’t enabled/installed by default.

Here is the optimal solution to this problem (I suggest this post be stuck at the top of the board by a moderator):

    1) Ensure wireless is enabled by pressing Fn+F11

    2) Under Network Connections, Right Click the Wireless Connection and go to Properties.

    3) Under the “Wireless Networks” tab, UNCHECK “Use Windows to configure my network connections”

    4) Download the latest driver from http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1474

    5) Extract the files

    6) Locate and open the IsConfig.ini

    7) Under “SupportOSUI ;Supported platforms for RtWlan Utility” change “WinXP=0″ to “WinXP=1″

Locate the Setup.exe and run it

    9) Complete the install and the Realtek wireless utility will take over. If it doesn’t, an icon will be placed on the desktop automatically.

This should cure any issues with constant wireless disconnects and stabilize the wireless network connection with any router.

    Cheers,
    Jay

    Thanks, it was really helpful

    Hi.
I just got a wind u100 and am having problems accessing the internet.
I’ve already installed the updated realtek driver.
The wireless card appears to be working since the signal strength is very good and the status is connected. However, I still cannot connect to the internet and keep getting the error message “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have tried reinstalling the latest drivers
    according to Hardwyrd’s instructions.
My card can connect to LAN but the signal
(the signal bar) in the realtek console
switches from around 80% to 0.
    It cycles every few seconds.
So I can’t get my net going.
Any suggestions on how to repair this will be welcome.

got the same problem of no wireless ap detected.
You’re right, its the driver. I downloaded the driver from msi site and extracted it to my disk. Then i uninstall the mini card driver. Then I add the hardware and voila, it found the new driver and my wireless lan is working.
    Thanks guys

I’ve had the same problem. You need to press Fn + F11. You will then be able to see the wireless network, however, when you try to connect, it just stops.

All you need to do is modify the settings for the wireless adapter by pressing the Configure button on the Wireless Adapter Card Properties dialog.

I have posted the details on my blog at http://baudizm.blogsome.com

how do i reset my wind?

i’m experiencing the same problem… i’ve updated firmware of my router and also that of the wlan, which i got from the msi website. my wifi connection isn’t still rock solid. =(

is it advisable to just buy a new mini wifi card and install it on my wind?

  28. Avatar for LiNTEK LiNTEK says:

@Mike, you have to reset the wind after re-installing the driver. I also urge you to reset the router.

I did these things and everything went fine.

You may want to try the software from Boingo. A wireless connection manager that might also help. I’ve heard this from a dell tech and they say that if all things fail try Boingo.

  30. Avatar for Mike Mike says:

I’m not sure if it is a driver issue. I reinstalled with the newest drivers from MSI and it helped a lot, but it still drops wifi connections more than usual.

  31. Avatar for Abe Olandres Abe Olandres says:

Yup, it’s a driver issue. Just re-installed the Realtek drivers from MSI.

Strange that MSI has let this one slip past their radar.
