There’s been numerous discussions by subscribers of Smart Bro to flood the NTC with email complaints about the service, or lack thereof, from Smart WiFi. Details of the plan are posted in my Smart WiFi entry here.
The plan is simple. Every DSL subscriber will email NTC ([email protected]) on December 24, 2005 and file complaints against Smart together with stats/records of downtimes and intermittent connections.
They’ve been spreading the word in my blog and other blogs where SmartBro is being discussed as well as forums and other bulletin boards.
This is by far the most sensible and most professional move by Smart subscribers. My blog has received over 1,300 comments and close to 40,000 page views just because of Smart Bro yet most of the comments were rants and cussing (where tons of them were already deleted). I hope that my blog has in a way help spread the word and enable subscribers (including would-be subscribers) to communicate and unite on this issue.
Once Smart going to disconnect my service.
Their bills take 45 days to get here, but Veco
can deliver theirs.
Then I paid 2 months in advance and smart kept
dropping either the previous balance or the
last payment. It took several emails to expalin
an account payable program is a 1st year college
computer program.
Now, we’ve 2 computers and we’re working and
upoin reboot, we have to reset thru internet option out settings or repair the ipl to get
it working. Smarts login is so niggardly, even
with a verification code when our house has
15 foot walls, attack dogs, and what are they
worried about. For hour I am able to login
and work and suddenly, our connection is lost.
After resetting or repairing the ipl which I
should not have to do, it begins to work…4 hours later.
Problem is lack of competetion. When you’ve
a paid interneet connection with your own
tower you should not have to continually
login to use the service. PLDT can’t come\
past Consolacion, so we’ve this DREAM satelitte,
very poor as SkyCable is accused of a monolopy,
so now DREAM and SmartBro are a monolopy as we
should have competetion in every area. Smart would get rid of their SmartCrap if customers
had any choice in providers and same is true
of cable/satelitte. It all stinks.
I used to go to SM to pay my SmartBro bill.
On several occassions with their flashing signs
it took three hours to pay for the service each
month. I could go pay my Veco bill, go to SM
and come back and still they had no receipt.
So many flashing signs and expense is telling
customers their queue number but three hours
is rediculous. Definately theres no government
responsibility in broadcasting, but rather a
protectionist few that own and control communications and doing a really poor job of it. They cant’ bill correct, they can’t collect the statement fee right, and they are obcessed
with hackers to the point a paying customer can’t get on the internet quite often.

pinaputol ko na ang smart bro ko dahil wala akong connection ng 3 days. pero may mga bill pa rin na dumadating sakin at ang last na mail ay galing sa abogado. unfair nmn un kung babayaran ko pa un ng hindi ko nmn nagami. bakit evrymonth my bill pa rin na dumadating kahit pinaputol mo na. hindi nmn sila matawagan sa mga number nila ano ba yn pano nila malalaman kung my problem tayo sa smart

haist!! is this actually working? Are you still doing this guys? I really do hope that there is a professional lawyer that can help with this.. Cuz smart is just ridiculous!!! absofuc**ng slow!!! Connection is UK for virgin media is like 10mbps for 10 pounds and that is like 680 pesos per month, including phone line and cable… that is a bargain!! considering it is also fibre optic connection.. never had a problem. I thought that here in Philippines connections will actually be cheaper, I stand corrected!!

First two months lang maayos service ng Smart Bro.. Litse talaga. Ngayon hindi na ako makapag-browse kapag may download sa torrent ko, kahit 1.0 kbps ang dina-download. Peste, 1mbps daw speed, eh talo pa ng dial up to eh.

Im having problems with my smarbro canopy kasi. plan 999 ung plan ko, they told us from 312kbps they upgraded the service up to 1mbps. 1st 2months ng service ok nman we’re getting 300 max to 500plus kbps..
BUt after that we noticed na bumagal ung connection eto yung time frame= 11am-11pm we’re getting 40-60kbps 0_0 so san yung sinasabi nilang upgrade??
then 11pm-10am ok nman we’re getting 300plus max of 500plus kbps.. Kala ko ba up to 1mbps na??
i tried to call the technical support service people (technical nga ba?? o csr lang?) nung 1st time ko na encounter ung ganong isyu.. after 2 months ganon pa din til now .Evrytime i ping a website withn timeframe na 11am-11pm laging request timed out(SUPERINCONSISTENT).yung reason nila sakin my sira DAW ung base station nila (upgrade, technical problem s base station,whatever).But after two months tumawag ako dahil wlang pagbabago sa connection ko; base station pa din daw..when i heard it as in… WTF!!! 2months na nakalipas ganon pa din???
Im also playing online game at halos di makagalaw character ko sa sobrang lag, sa facebook naman para maload ko yung farmville halos tapos ko na makain lunch ko nagloload pa din.Di na nga ako nagyoyoutube kasi sobrang bagal magbuff ng videos.
The problem is maghihintay pa ba kami ng 11pm ng gabi para makuha ung connection na mejo ok but still its not enough kung totoong upgraded na sa 1mb kc 300-500plus kbps nakukuha namin. I know may catch Kasi “UP TO” 1mb pero diba dapat makuha ng mga consumer ang 60% ng speed na binabayaran nila??! Napakaunfair kasi e, pano ung mga tao na alam lang ay gumamit ng internet explorer at magbrowse??! basic troubleshooting ay di nila alam, aasa na lang ba sila sa mga Representative ng SMART na NAKASANAYAN NA GAMITIN ANG REASON NA BASE STATION??!!
Share ko lang po to, I have nothing against the company gusto ko lang marinig nyo ang nangyayari and to guide also the consumer kung sino man ang balak magpakabit ng internet,for those people na gumagamit ng smartbro at walang problema maswerte kayo.

The Canopy IP Address
1. Open your web browser and enter your Canopy IP address on the address bar.
You will be brought to the Canopy Homepage.
2. On the left side of the Canopy page, you should see a navigation box. Click Configuration.
3. Click on the Quality of Service (QoS) Tab. You should see your
Bandwidth Settings. Take a look at your Sustained Uplink Data Rate
and Sustained Downlink Data Rate. By default they should be both at 256. See?
Those are your default download and upload limits. Kinda sucks right?
4. Change nu both of the Uplink and Downlink values to 500.
pero you can set the values to any number you like as long as their total would be 1000
(eg: you can have your downlink: 600 and uplink: 400, or you can have downlink: 700 and uplink: 300).
However, The recommended value for both uplink and downlink rates is both at 500.
Click the Save Changes button.
5. The screen should say Reboot Required. So press the Reboot button.
By this time, your Local Area Connection icon on your tray area (botton-right side of your desktop)
should have an X mark on it. Just wait for a while until that X mark disappears. yun na un!
6. You’re back at the Local Area Connection Properties window. Again Press Ok.
Wait for a moment for the changes to take effect.
7. Open your web browser and try to test your speed at speedtest.net or testmy.net to
confirm your new download and upload speeds.

Guys, I hope you will really heed my advice na sulatan ang NTC (****@****.***) at sabihin ang lahat ng details nyo, be as honest and detailed as possible ha kasi isesend nila ung letter nyo mismo sa SMART eh at titignan kung totoo.
pagkatapos nun magsulat kayo ng letter of termination & request to waive the lock-in fees. idetalye nio po lahat ng paghihirap niyo at iadress nio sa manager ng smart wireless center. kakausapin kayo nun at pagdasal niong pagbigyan kayo tulad ko po ehe

Sya nga po pala, bukod sa hindi nako pinagbayad ng termination fee eh natanggap ko narin ung full refund ko na P1,988 from the SMARt wireless center. Basta ba isuli nyo ng kumpleto ung antenna or equipments nyo eh. Mismong manager pa ng SMART ang nag-assist sa problem ko at prinioritize dahil nga sinulatan ko NTC at sinabon sila.
Awa ng Dios eh masaya na ang aking Bagong taon, at naibalik pa ung pera ko. hayy. sana lang eh makahanap naman ako ng stable pero mura na broadband ayaw ko na ng PLDT o SMART me phobia nako jan. Sayang di available Globelines dito sa Soldiers Hills, Alabang eh. baka Cable Internet nalang. ok kaya un?
Dibale mag-research muna ako para hindi na ako maperwisyo at maloko ng tulad ng SMART Microwave nayan ehe.

ngapla tanungin nyo muna yung CSR ng SMART Bro kung meron silang ginagawang activity sa site kung bakit wala kayong Inet..
try nyo muna e2 sa may “command promt” type nyo muna e2 “ipconfig /all” at check nyo kung tama yung ip na rerecieve nyo..dapat ang ip nde magffall sa “ip:169.0.0.0” etc.. dapat nag start sa ip:192.168.0.0 etc. yan. then saka kayo pa assist sa CSR ng SMARTBRO…mahirap mag relay sa kuro-kuro..o di kaya e “Shutdown nyo yung Antenna for about 15 to 30 mins” pati ang PC na gamit nyo after 15 to 30 mins nyo bago buksan. atska ilagay nyo narin sa pinaglalgyan ng saksakan ng PC yung adaptor ng smartbro para sabay sila na mag ON.. Extension or AVR.. minsan kasi ang inaakala nating may problema minsan hindi yun ang nagiging sulution sa problema sa connection ng internet.. i can assure you wala ng ganyang ka grabeng problema ang smartbro.. kung ano man papalitan nyo nlng yung antenna.. TRY Nyo Muna yang simpleng Test na yan.. Kahit anong provider nmn may problemang ganyan at walang perfecto….

Whenever you’re disconnected, you can point your canopy to other base station nearby. I have screenshots how to do it. It’s just simple. Just go to the url where the meridian guys always go to.

I am a smart wife user for almost a year….but last Dec. 18,2006 my connection was gone….I keep on calling smart wife office but they always said that they will just work out my problem as soon as possible….now it’s already 2 months that I don’t have a connection, I tried to contact their toll free number again and again but always busy..I don’t know why……I’m really so disappointed with their service!
I’m suggesting smart wife staffs, if you cannot handle costumers problem, better that you will not have that business………your customers are your profit, so serve them well!!!!!!!!

Knowing that smart wifi would have slower internet speed compared to globe which is cheaper by 5 pesos and faster like a DSL, but to no avail all their open slots within the area of installation is full, with no choice, I have to avail the Smart wifi. Reading some of your posts from Feb to present not all, made me laugh out loud coz the swearing being stated in your post happens over and over again. Well maybe some of you know that using smart wifi is sharing with subscribers within the radius of the signal so expected slow speeds in internet connection, downloading and online games. But WTH, I have no choice, suffer for one year ;P , well in torrent I have about 25 kbps dl speed and 25 kbps upl speed, its enough for now, (had reserved a slot at Globe ;P) , and online games, you have to servers within asia only, other than that you have to suffer lags during play time, I’m currently looking for a tweaking program made speacially for Wifi users, still have found none, I’m currently using TweakNow Powerpack 2006 which has an integrated internet connection optimizer and found out a little increase in speed, I’ve used cablenut program before on my dialup but don’t know if it would work with a wifi. If any of know know a tweak on Wifis please post the name of the program and your settings and speed. thanx. And by the way, I’m using Kaspersky Internet Suite and Windows Defender, and please update your version of windows at microsoft, if your version is pirated please post your address and I’ll share you a fully working patch, so you can update your windows including to what adapter you’re using for yuor Wifi connection for maximum compatibility. The tweak I’m using is available for download at www.torrentspy.com but first you need a torrent client Bitcomet or utorrent. Good luck ;P

The name was still wifi when I subscribbed, for 3 month okey naman though there a day or two na i’m encountering slow speed. It’s fine! pwede png palampasin. Now, on the 4th month my connection keeps on dropping. First, i did the proper steps of troubleshooting (tech support agent me ng dsl and home networking) It’s not my nic that it causing the problem. I tried calling their tech support (just imagine a tech support to a bigger company to this stupid wifi department)
I tried avoiding to irate to the smart tech support dahil ayaw ko din ng irate caller but for heavens sake…. all they asked me to do is to renew and release my ip add. Thinking it will solve the problem. I keep on recieving 169.xxx for my ip. but when I ping my nic its good and no loss at all. so it means there is no connection at all to the internet. The tech supprt keeps on saying that i do have a connection to the server …. un lang and try to observe the connection… and lalo n ngayong tag-ulan…….. hell with them……and that my ip address will constantly change…..ulol……wifi is using a static ip………baka dynamic and alam lng nya…….How can I end the contract fast?!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are not doing their part
I am still on dial up with i-manila but I am planning to get broadband service because I want faster higher kbps. Their service is ok but I seem to start seeing more disconnects and 2-3 attempts lately before I can connect. Four months ago this wasn’t so.
But after reading your input I am concern about the lock in period of 12mos. It’s not fair to penalize subscriber for trying to get out of an “agreement/contract” that the broadband providers cannot validly deliver satisfactorily in the first place.
I’ve approached Smart Bro and they give you the impression that all’s well. I will see Globelines next (they offering a landline free for 12mos. if you subscribe).
When they make you sign up knowing that these problems happen in many occasions, then it reeks of a deception and a scam. I am sure that most subscribers don’t want to terminate their connection if they find it “lovable”. Who wants to? The exceptions to this should be easy to identify. So they should not penalize those who have documented valid complaints.
Are there other broadband providers in the Philippines other than PLDT, Smart or Globe which are worth looking at?
Currently I have a PLDT line.
So is PLDT DSL the better option then? In general is DSL through the regular phone line more reliable than the wireless kind like Smart Bro which uses a canopy with another power source?
Found this site before I wrote NTC re Smart Wi Fi poor service. Here is my letter to NTC copy furnished Smart Company.
“Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to lodge a formal complaint against Smart Communications, Inc. for violating Republic Act No. 7394 otherwise known as The Consumer Act of the Philippines particularly the provision under Chapter 6 on false, deceptive and misleading advertisement.
I subscribed to Smart’s WiFi internet connection (Reference Number 1010030149) last November 26, 2005 with a high expectation to get the corresponding package of 7/24 unlimited internet access, 256 KBPS and free one (1) month internet connection as advertised.
However, almost nine (9) months since I availed of this promo, Smart has yet to fully comply with the above advertisement hype. I have yet to enjoy my FREE one month internet access supposedly on the third month of my subscription. Moreover, Smart has yet to fully address my downtime complaints and concerns.
Just for your information, during my first three months as subscriber (December 2005 to February 2006), the unlimited access hype of Smart became limited access because of erratic connection from my workstation to its base station. Despite this apparent internet service deficiency, I still paid in full my subscription for the months of December 26, 2005 to February 2006 last March 10, 2006 to the tune of P2,964 (or P988 monthly). I made another payment of P988 in March 17, 2006 so that I could enjoy my free one month internet connection.
However, still I have not enjoyed the said free internet access offer after my March payments despite my regular follow ups. Instead, what I got in April was a no internet connection message on my screen . The problem persisted that Smart had to change its WiFi devise installed on my PC so that I could gain access to the internet.
My last payment was on July 29, 2006 when Smart WiFi connection started to stabilize and improve. Just when I started to enjoy a hassle free connection after my payment in July 29, 2006, Smart without any prior notice permanently disconnected my internet connection last August 16, 2006. This is even at the height when I needed a connection for my online job. Despite my plea to have my connection restored, Smart has given me a deaf ear instead and maintained its position for me to fully pay the amount of P3,458.01 of which P988 is still due for August 26, 2006 while the rest are contestable because of downtime.
Even if I already deserve a one month free connection regardless of my billing status,
the position of Smart is I should pay the entire P3,458.01 before we can talk restoration, rebates and fulfillment of service.
The amount involved is just a small amount. But the way Smart is handling the case is like bullying a small client like me by insisting an anti consumer policy. I can dig down my pocket and pay as much as triple of that amount without any element of hesitation if I get the service I deserve from Smart.
I hope you can look into my concern not only to protect the interest of paying consumers but also to ensure that service due to customers is duly served by concerned providers under your jurisdiction.

I can see smart is really investing in false advertising. Grabe.. Tapos ang daming IDIOT sa CSR’s na walang alam sabihin kundi may technical activity sa base station and just monitor your connection. TApos di daw sila pwede mag-papunta ng tao basta… Meron daw tatawag pero 1 week na wala pa rin.

I was ecstatic when they replied pronto to my connection request.
But alas, I had similar problems with Smartbro on the 3rd day of connection… Kakaasar… because sometimes I don’t go to the office and just telecommute right at home and a disruption in connection is a no-no.
I brought this to Smart’s attention and asked them, nay, “ordered” them to remove the service at the risk of paying fines. (we are tied up for one year).
I said I didn’t care to pay for a service that does not work and we’ll just handle the legalities in court if need be. I said they better fix the problem within 24 hours or else I will yank out their equipment myself and return their useless stuff to their office. I got the names of the all the people I spoke with from smart as well as their supervisor and the technical people I talked to and told them all our conversations were recorded.
Lo and behold! Instantly just as if an angel farted… the problem was fixed… Now I only experience intermittent connection DURING REAL PEAK HOURS! And it only lasts for 2 to 3 seconds. Or sometimes, a real drop in the speed, which is tolerable since I experience the same from time to time from DSL and Cable in the office.
In reality, I’m still waiting for the availability of cable internet at home. Once that arrives… I will say goodbye to NOT SO SMARTBRO.
I am so pissed off!!! alam nyo ba wala kaming connection for one month now, tumawag ako sa tech support and nag troubleshoot kami tapos walang nangyari, so the agent namely “Ryan Limpin”
asked me to wait for the second level support so i waited for almost 1 hour sa phone but no 2nd level suppor answr the call. He told me then, na tatawagan nila ako but i waited for a day and no one called. (this was my 3rd time na umasa sa kanilang call back kasi hindi nila maayos ang connection and they even promised to dispatch a technician to check our connection….pero promises is all i got!)…. Now tell me i’m i supposed to get mad about this service?…. kalma pa rin ako…. tumawag pa rin ako sa tech support… with no surprise yun pa rin ang nangyari….! so i told them i want to cancel the service for getting nothing from them but headache! So I went to their center and asked the customer service to cancel my account but she answered “I’m sorry mam you can’t cancel your account, you need to pay….bla bla bla!!!!!……” why the hell will i pay for the service that haven’t use and doesn’t give satisfaction at all! —-I am always a good customer to them no overdues or what so ever!….and i asked the customer service to check the case log on my account to give her a proof that i called tech support about my connection, and you know what, in their record…Ryan Limpin the agent handled my tech support call, noted that i did not follow the troubleshooting and i refused to do it!….! the hell!
therefore i conclude
they are big liars and they deceive people!
and the customer service agent mentioned about the due date and when i cheked my bill its not the duedate, the customer service agent told me its not the right due date….so why the hell will they put or sent the statement with a due date that is different from their system!…another LIE!
SO if anyone is planning to get their service…. this is my advise…. think what you really want and what are your needs…. if you your looking for headache then Smart Wi-Fi is the internet service for you!…. if your looking for better tech support then Smart Wi-Fi tech support can give a better shit on you and if your looking for an excellent customer service then Smart Wi-Fi customer service can give you an excellent lies of all time!

for some ppl who wanna know why im so pissed is because me and my brother are doing buissness online (EBAY) and we face about 250 email messages from customers to be resolved, packages to be shipped with their corresponding shipping address thru emails and secondly, my brother likes to play all kinds of online games which need atleast a speed of 200kbps..

To whom it may concern:
I have been a Meridian Telekoms subscriber for the last seven months, and I have encountered several issues regarding your service that I deem sufficient to warrant the termination of my subscription.
First and foremost, the speed of your internet service, although faster than regular dial-up connections, is not as fast as DSL or cable internet connections. There are times during the day when the speed is not up to par, probably due to network traffic.
Secondly, your billing system causes great inconvenience to its subscribers. Your company does not provide a grace period for non-payment of the monthly fee. In other words, your company operates similarly to a pre-paid internet service. The internet access simply expires every 30 days without notice. Your billing policies do not consider the fact that during the day when the subscription must be paid, such subscriber may critically need internet access for one reason or another. To the dismay of such subscriber, he will just find himself without any internet access without any notice from your company whatsoever.
The common practice used by broadband ISPs in the United States as well as your sister company, PLDT DSL, is to provide the customer with uninterrupted and continuous broadband internet access. Termination of the internet connection does not occur just because the monthly bill was not paid before the monthly expiration date. Termination takes place when the subscriber has been truly delinquent in paying his monthly bill despite notice and collection efforts by the service provider.
Thirdly, there is severe inefficiency between your billing department and technical support. I pay my monthly bill through Banco De Oro, and on several occasions paid in advance (paid for next month’s internet access). Despite such payment, I still encounter the same exact problem I mentioned above- my internet access simply gets cut off on the 30th day of my present subscription. It never continues onto the next month.
The primary reason why a Smart Wifi/Meridian Telekoms subscriber pays the monthly bill on time, or even in advance, is to ensure that his or her broadband internet connection remains continuous and nonstop. My presumption as a subscriber is that upon deposit of the monthly fee with the bank, for all intents and purposes, my subscription is deemed paid.
However, at the end of my monthly subscription, I am bound to call your service center, talk to a customer representative, while he or she asks for the deposit slip (representing my payment) to be faxed to your office. Thereafter, I am asked to wait, and to call back in two hours (to give your customer representatives time to confirm my payment), and only then am I given the activation key in order to access the internet.
Having paid the monthly bill with the bank, no customer must be tasked to present proof of his payment with your company, much less undergo the process I mentioned above just to receive his or her activation key. The responsibility of confirming whether such monthly subscription has been paid falls squarely on your company and the depository bank. This is no longer the responsibility of the customer. If your company insists on this practice, then it would be better if you sold your services through pre-paid internet cards to get the activation key.
Lastly, there is tremendous technical difficulty regarding your connectivity. I have encountered two problems regarding this issue. The first problem concerns the use of wireless routers. I have tried on several occasions to connect my wireless router using your internet connection, however the normal configurations do not work. I sought assistance from your technical support, but I was given scant information and on one occasion was told that such service may be done for a certain fee. During the last seven months, I have been unable to configure my wireless router, while I was able to do so easily when I was using PLDT DSL.
The second problem regarding this issue involves the use of multiple computers. In our household, we have three computers: one desktop, and two notebook computers. I am forced to switch the Ethernet cable from one computer to the other since I am unable to use my wireless router. But due to the Smart Wifi portal protocol, which is unlike PLDT DSL, I cannot easily access the internet by switching the Ethernet cable from one computer to the other.
Most recently, despite an active account, I was only able to open the portal page and log on with my username and password. But instead of directing me to the security page, the portal immediately took me to the transaction menu. I brought this to the attention of your technical support, but so far the problem has not been resolved and I am unable to access the internet notwithstanding my active account.
I realize that this letter of complaint might be an exercise of futility as it may not be given any notice or consideration by the management of your company. However, I believe that a company like yours, under the macro management and leadership of Manuel V. Pangilinan, will not simply disregard the issues I have brought to your attention. These issues need to be addressed immediately not for my sake as a dissatisfied subscriber but for your incumbent and future customers. It is axiomatic specially in the realm of the service industry that client/customer service should be the company’s top priority. I sincerely hope that your company takes this principle seriously.

Too bad, we are still within the SMART contract timeframe.Kung hindi lang , we could have transferred immediately.We are encountering all the problems you have mentioned and we keep on calling smart , we get rebate but this is not the conern.We need a better service comparable to at least the country in asia. What we need is a reliable service, a reliable connection for all our jobs and different business dealings.This is not just for games or internet surfing.

Hello, I am also FED-UP of this damn smart wi-fi. Everytime my connection gets broken, I will immediately call the helpless and incompetent technical support and everytime (for every disconnection) they will put me in this very lenghty process of disconnecting the base ap to my computer, checking for IP address, etc.. Until eventualy, they will tell me that my connections are working on their site. They will insist on this until you get very frustrated that you will just hang-up the phone or curse them. My experience shows that neither of this works on them! They will then tell you that they will send their technical to check the subscribers base station. If you ask them when, THEY WILL NOT COMMIT. YOU WILL END UP WAITING FOR THEIR TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO CHECK ON YOUR UNIT ON THEIR CONVINIENCE. THIS SHOWS HOW ARROGANT SMART WIFI SUPPORT ARE. YOU ARE PAYING IN FULL AND YOU ARE GETTING MUCH LESS ON WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR! THAT IS I THINK AS UNFAIR. The whole troubleshooting are done but the connectivity seems does not improve on the clients side. I wonder how this product have been distributed in the market without passing the ISO 9001, considering the service quality were still beyond zero and the product yet don’t know how to operate properly even by their own MANAGEMENT. Please be advised that this product were not met its STANDARDS, QUALITY AND SERVICE, but the monthly bills are still their concern.

NTC must provide access so that it can better serve the public. I hope NTC is not experiencing a connection problem too. Otherwise, the public might think that it is also using Smart WiFi.

Another development on my case….
After sending an email today to the person that the Smart Wireless Center referred me to informing him that NTC is scheduling a mediation on my case, I got a call just now from Smart (2838). They asked if anybody from their Technical Group had contacted me and if I would still be willing to continue with the service if they have fixed the issue.
I told them that I am no longer interested since I have already signed up with a DSL provider in our locality. I believe that the Smart Wifi people are not so willing to go through the mediation process at all for one reason or another. Probably afraid of any repercussion from NTC.
I urge everyone to try the route I took and send feedback to this site if the steps could be further improved/enhanced.
To all disgruntled Smart Wifi Subscribers:
These are the things you need to do to make your case solid:
1. At the time that you realized that you don’t have any connection, call Smart Service Center right away. Jot down date and time of call and person you spoke to. Ensure also that you jot down the resolution that the representative promised you.
2. Do not forget to request for rebate for any service interruption. Again, jot down the time, date and person you talked to when you made the request.
3. If you have decided that you had enough trouble and would like to discontinue the service, go to the nearest Smart Wireless Center to state the request. Check with the customer representative if all your previous complaints are in their records. DO NOT FORGET TO REQUEST SMART TO WAIVE THE PRETERMINATION CHARGES.
4. Most likely, Smart Wireless Center people will not act on this request since they will forward it to another outfit that really handles this part of their operations. Make sure to get an email address where you can formally state your termination request. Send the email and keep it in file.
5. If you have received no action on this email (give it at least 2 weeks), send a letter of complaint to NTC (****@****.***). Also, write in the feedback form of the NTC website regarding your troubles with Smart Wifi.
6. If you have not received any reply from either party and you have ensured that you have documented your case really well, call MS. BRIONES of NTC (02-922-4084). She is in charge of handling Smart Wifi complaints.
7. According to Ms. Briones, she will set up a mediation meeting between Smart Wifi representative and you where complaints will be heard and actioned (hopefull).
I haven’t reached stage 7 yet but I’m documenting all these steps so that all of you guys who are gnashing their teeth and pulling their hair due to frustration will have a more logical way of going about this.

i live in Sampaloc, Manila
do u think it’s advisable to avail SmartWiFi in this area?
and i heard they’ll attach an antenna,
so does the ‘smart’ signal really matter?

I’ve had only one downtime since my subscription in October 25, 2005. We live in Makati (near Pasay already) and the surfing speed is quite fast. So maybe the problem is just the location of the antenna or something.

So musta na Kayo lahat?, “long time no write” nako dito eh, ehe since awa ng Dios eh naayos ng NTC ang problema ko sa SMART Microwave internet na yan!
Guys, I hope you will really heed my advice na sulatan ang NTC (****@****.***) at sabihin ang lahat ng details nyo, be as honest and detailed as possible ha kasi isesend nila ung letter nyo mismo sa SMART eh at titignan kung totoo.
Good luck at God bless sa inyo na magpapadala palang ng letter sa NTC.
Sya nga po pala, bukod sa hindi nako pinagbayad ng termination fee eh natanggap ko narin ung full refund ko na P1,988 from the SMARt wireless center. Basta ba isuli nyo ng kumpleto ung antenna or equipments nyo eh. Mismong manager pa ng SMART ang nag-assist sa problem ko at prinioritize dahil nga sinulatan ko NTC at sinabon sila.
Awa ng Dios eh masaya na ang aking Bagong taon, at naibalik pa ung pera ko. hayy. sana lang eh makahanap naman ako ng stable pero mura na broadband ayaw ko na ng PLDT o SMART me phobia nako jan. Sayang di available Globelines dito sa Soldiers Hills, Alabang eh. baka Cable Internet nalang. ok kaya un?
Dibale mag-research muna ako para hindi na ako maperwisyo at maloko ng tulad ng SMART Microwave nayan ehe.

PLDT is using low-quality bandwidth with network peering issues. That’s why are able to serve Wifi at a cheaper price. *darn*

You won’t believe this Abe, but I can’t browse all sites hosted by you using Smart WiFi.
Sama sama natin email ang NTC ****@****.*** sa Dec. 24 para malaman nila ang ginagawa ng Smart Wifi. Para sa atin din itong mga kinakawawa, iniisahan, at niloloko ng smart wifi.
for get about my last line on monitoring the comments, my browser psyched out and I cant see the subscribe to comments link, I used my ppc to wi-fi on the lavatory and I found the link, bah guess Ill reinstall my FF soon,

I have an Info that there was a 3-day cell site access blackout in the visayas region of smart services. A friend told me a whole neighborhood got a “no network” on their smart phones, and couldnt make a call. A rumor though not confirmed is that smart is trying to upgrade to 3G shutting down some systems on the onset…
BTW any chance you can give me a tip how I can monitor replies on a thread I commented on?
