75,000 bloggers in the Philippines?

A recent post here by Duncan of the Blog Herald indicated that Philippine bloggers account for 75,000 of over a 100 Million bloggers world wide.

His sources include LiveJournal which accounted for about 33,012 bloggers based on their LJ profile. I am very apprehensive with this number as it is too high in my opinion. Based on the numbers and rate of participation in PinoyBlog.com and PinoyTopBlogs.com, I would peg the number to just around just 20,000 to 25,000 tops (that’s just over 10 times of PinoyBlog.com membership). The numbers that LJ gave would be a running total, not active ones and we all know that we’ve had several blogs created before we got to what have today. (Mine alone was 6 blogs prior to this.)

Ok, there’s MySpace, LiveJournal, BlogSome, Friendster Blogs, i.PH, MSN Spaces and the hosted blogs but we can’t account all of them as being really active.

I believe we can do some more accurate count around here. And that is on the way.

Hmm, I think I believe it. A lot of blogs–esp. among the high school/college crowd–are targeted only towards the bloggers’ friends, so the owners don’t publicize them. The blogherald article also doesn’t include Blogger (which a lot of Pinoys use), nor Friendster Blogs, the number of Pinoys on which seems to be rising.

    @ Peter

Probably so. But if an LJ (which the stats was based) user would signup for it, he would have used the country he currently lives and not the country where he was born. The other reference was www.pinoyblogs.com which is down at this time.

    We’re cooking up something different.

Perhaps when he meant Philippine Bloggers, he meant inclusive of those Filipinoes abroad?

Also, membership to “site rankers” like PinoyBlog.com or PinoyTopBlogs.com might not be in the character of some bloggers. I personally dislike joining sites like these that “rank” its members for any particular reason.
