BIR collected Php3.72 million in taxes from social media influencers

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has collected a total of Php3.72 million in taxes from social media influencers for the calendar year 2021.

BIR Assistant Commissioner Clavelina Nacar informed Congress last Monday that this figure is higher compared to the previous year (2020) when they collected Php1.12 million in total taxes (income tax and VAT).

The social media influencers being referred to are producers of digital content on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The 2021 collection is about 332% higher than the previous year as more and more social media influencers has started declaring their income and paying taxes.

In August 2021, the BIR sent out a memo reminding bloggers and social media influencers to pay their taxes. There was even a reward of Php1 million for anyone who reports a tax-evading social media influencer.

Here’s the list of taxable revenue by bloggers and social media influencers as outlined by the BIR.
