With the first quarter of the year underway, smartphones under PHP10K have been rolling out left and right.
One of the latest releases to date is the Huawei nova Y72, boasting a 6.75-inch display with a 1600 x 720 HD+ resolution. Among its other notable features are its dual-rear camera setup and a Kirin 710A chipset.
Likewise, we’re here to present another smartphone with a comparable specs to challenge the nova Y72. Despite being an earlier release, it’s worth noting that the pricing difference between the two smartphones is just in the hundreds of pesos.
The vivo Y27s features a 6.64-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset. The Y27s also has similar connectivity features and a near-identical dual-camera setup.
But I guess that’s what we’re here for! The mirrored specs and close price margin should make readers curious to see which phone offers better value.
So, with that, we’ll get into the nitty-gritty of matching these smartphones with one another below.

This should go without saying, but a high-resolution display is essential for enjoying media of all kinds to the fullest.
Both smartphones have a near 6.8-inch display. However, things take a turn for the vivo Y27s’ favor when we look at its refresh rate, resolution, and GPU.
The vivo Y27s has a higher 90Hz refresh rate and resolution of 2388 × 1080, as opposed to the Huawei nova Y72’s 60Hz refresh rate and 1600 x 720 pixels. It should also be noted that the Y27s offers 394 pixels per inch, while the nova Y72 offers just 260ppi.
Additionally, the vivo Y27s uses an Adreno 610 GPU. Compared to the nova Y72’s Mali-G51 MP4 graphics card, the Y27s offers a slightly better graphics performance.
All things considered, the vivo Y27s has a clear advantage in the display category.
For chipsets, the HUAWEI nova Y72 is powered by a Kirin 710A chipset which is a 14nm octa-core processor. This runs on four (4) Cortex A73 @ 2.0GHz and four (4) Cortex A53 @ 1.7GHz, paired with a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU.
As for the vivo Y27s, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset with a 6nm octa-core processor. This runs on four (4) Kryo 265 Gold (Cortex A73) @ 2.4GHz and four (4) Kryo 265 Silver (Cortex A53) @ 1.9GHz.
The Snapdragon 680 trumps the Kirin 710A in almost every aspect despite being labeled a low-end chipset. Likewise, the former was released at a later date (October 2021) compared to the latter (June 2020).
The Snapdragon 680 achieves an average score of over 300,000 points in the Antutu benchmark. Meanwhile, the Kirin 710A scores just a bit over 230,000 points. This is primarily due to the higher clock speeds of the Cortex A73 (2.4GHz vs. 2.0GHz) of both chipsets.
This gives the chipset of the vivo Y27s a significant edge over the HUAWEI nova Y72 in terms of overall performance.
It is a necessity for a modern smartphone to have at least 8GB of RAM. Fortunately, this is the minimal memory cap for the HUAWEI nova Y72. This is even better for the vivo Y27s, having the ability to extend its RAM size to double with 16GB.
As for storage, both devices cap out at 256GB of internal storage, with variants for both phones available at 128GB. However, opposed to the nova Y72, the vivo Y27s has UFS 2.2 support. This provides more storage space for software, apps, and overall data.
And if that wasn’t enough to give the Y27s the advantage, it also has a microSD card slot available. This slot can store up to 1TB, which is a LOT of space for everything else under the digital sun.
Moving on to cameras, we can expect the similar quality from both the nova Y72 and Y27s. Both smartphones have dual-rear camera setups, with the same 50MP f/1.8 main cameras.
For the secondary cameras, both have a 2MP f/2.4 lens. The difference is just with how they’re marketed, with HUAWEI noting this as a macro lens. Meanwhile, vivo just calls it a straightforward secondary lens.
As for the selfie cameras, both smartphones are at another stalemate with an 8MP F2.0 front camera. This puts them both at a tie for this category.
Diving into connectivity and features, we’ll start with the similarities between the two smartphones. First, both the nova Y72 and Y27s have Dual nano-SIM, 4G LTE, charge on USB-C, and have side-mounted fingerprint scanners.
But moving towards Wi-Fi, the Y27s offers WiFi 2.4 GHz / 5.0 GHz opposed to the nova Y72s Wi-Fi 2.4. However, the nova Y72 does have Bluetooth 5.1 over the Y27s’ Bluetooth 5. Both smartphones should have NFC support, although the Y27s may not have this in certain regions.
As for software, the nova Y72 runs on EMUI 12, which should be on Android 11 for newer devices since its a recent release. Meanwhile, the Y27s runs on Funtouch OS 13, which is based on Android 13.
For earphone ports, the vivo Y27s supports 3.5mm jacks while the HUAWEI nova Y72 only has a USB-C port.
However, what makes the nova Y72 stand out is its X button on the side. This button lets users open a screen that takes them to their frequently used apps. On top of that, you can also use it to access payment codes, make calls, and more by just double pressing or holding it down.
On paper and as is, this is pretty close to call. I’ll leave this up in the air as software and features are subjective to how users prefer their devices functioning. The nova Y72’s X button does sound pretty nifty though, all things considered.

Considering how long your phone lasts and how fast it charges should definitely be something readers should look into. After all, this is where we base off how much media consumption, gaming, and overall phone usage we can get in one sitting.
On to battery capacity, the HUAWEI nova Y72 has a whopping 6,000mAh battery with 22.5W HUAWEI SuperCharge. Meanwhile, the vivo Y27s has a smaller 5,000mAh lithium-ion battery but has support for 44W of wired charging.
However, with different chipsets, these smartphones should come with some variables affecting their battery life. Despite the gap in battery capacity, the nova Y72 should last longer.
Again, a bit close to call—but we’re going with the nova Y72 because of its ability for longer video playback (31 hours) from 100% to 0% opposed to the overall life span of the Y27s (22 hours).
The 8GB + 256GB variant of the vivo Y27s is priced at PHP 9,599USD 164INR 13,867EUR 156CNY 1,191 to 9,799, depending on the retailer. As for the HUAWEI nova Y72 with 8GB + 256GB, it’s priced at PHP 9,899USD 169INR 14,300EUR 161CNY 1,228 to 9,999. Talk about competitive pricing, right? Only hundreds of pesos are bridging the gap between the two smartphones.
The verdict is in—with the vivo Y27s coming out ahead on top. But to be fair, the HUAWEI nova Y72 did make its case to rival the Y27s in most categories.
However, the Y27s’ clear advantages in display, chipset, and flexible storage options were hard to ignore. It didn’t help that the Y27s was released earlier, and therefore cost just a tiny bit less compared to the nova Y72.
But overall, if you’d like a smartphone with nifty features in its own right—the new HUAWEI nova Y72 isn’t bad either! Check it out on Lazada or Shopee!
And if you’re in for a thrifty pickup that will do everything BUT disappoint, check out the vivo Y27s right here 14!
