Beginning with the display, the OnePlus 7 Pro’s is larger at 6.67 inches. Both devices also have Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The smartphones also differ in the aspect that the 7 Pro has slightly curved edges while the Zenfone 6 employs very slim borders; both of them do have a thin, noticeable chin. The ZenFone 6 only has a 2340 x 1080px FHD+ IPS screen, so the OnePlus 7 Pro trumps this round by having a 3120 x 1440px Fluid AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
Both devices are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 so one can expect top-notch performance from each of them. When it comes to RAM, both devices begin their offerings at 6GB and have a larger option of 8GB. The OnePlus 7 Pro goes an extra step above the ZenFone 6 by offering a 12GB RAM option. Storage-wise, the ZenFone 6 starts at 64GB and goes up to 256GB, however, that isn’t the maximum yet as the storage can be expanded up to a whopping 2TB via the dedicated micro SD card slot. The 7 Pro has two storage options at 128GB and 256GB; users will have to stick with that as it doesn’t have expandable storage. The ZenFone 6 trumps this round.
Up next are the device’s cameras. ASUS wants to make a mark in innovation with the ZenFone 6 by fitting it with a dual flip camera. The 48MP main + 13MP ultra-wide rear shooters that can flip up to 90 degrees, allowing them to become the front camera. As for the OnePlus 7 Pro, it has a 16MP pop-up front camera and a triple camera setup on the rear consisting of 48MP main + 16MP ultra-wide + 8MP telephoto shooters. We haven’t seen the capabilities of each smartphone’s cameras yet quality-wise, however, we’d like to give this round to ASUS for its design idea.
In terms of biometrics, the 7 Pro and the ZenFone 6 both have face unlocking capabilities and fingerprint scanning technology. One key difference is that the 7 Pro has an in-display fingerprint sensor while the ZenFone 6 has its scanner mounted on the rear.
The OnePlus 7 Pro has a 4,000mAh battery capacity to keep it juiced up but the ZenFone 6 stomps over that by carrying a massive 5,000mAh battery capacity. Disappointingly, both smartphones do not have wireless charging capabilities, an aspect that may be a drawback for a couple of people. The ZenFone 6 does come with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0 technology, while the 7 Pro has Warp Charge 30 Fast Charging.
Wired headphones users can rejoice as the ZenFone 6 comes with a 3.5mm audio port, while the 7 Pro doesn’t have one. Other features of the ZenFone 6 include stereo speakers and a Smart Key button that can be customized to fit a user’s needs. On the other hand, the 7 Pro has dual speakers, haptic vibration, and a Fnatic mode, which is pretty much the gaming mode.
There are no micro USB ports to be found here as both the ZenFone 6 and the 7 Pro are equipped with a USB Type-C port. The ZenFone 6 runs ZenUI 6 while the 7 Pro runs on Oxygen OS; they only differ in names and user interface for both operating systems are based on the latest Android 9 Pie.
Overall, both the ASUS ZenFone 6 and the OnePlus 7 Pro up the flagship smartphone game with their hefty specs and variety in design. Would you consider either of these smartphones if they land in the Philippines? Let us know in the comments!
