It’s hard to see the difference between the three devices at first glance, but one indicator is the design of the screen. The P40 looks like your standard smartphone with thin yet noticeable bezels. The P40 Pro and Pro+, on the other hand, have even thinner bezels, which can only be noticed at the four corners.
Screen-size vary as well. The P40 has the smallest screen with the lowest resolution, although it’s still in the 6-inch range and Full HD+. What you should note here is that only the Pro variants have the 90Hz refresh rate.
Another way to distinguish the P40 Pro+ from the rest of the series is the color. While the P40 and P40 Pro share the same color options, the P40 Pro+ is only available in Ceramic White and Ceramic Black.
You can also spot their differences in the camera module, which I’ll explain below.
Although they belong from the same series, the cameras on each P40 device varies. Although you can spot the difference on the specs, here’s an explanation to better gauge their capabilities:
P40 – for basic photography
• Triple rear camera: 50MP main + 16MPultra-wide) + 8MP telephoto w/ 3x optical zoom
• 32MP front camera with IR depth sensing but fixed-focus.
P40 Pro – if you want a better wide-angle and zoom cameras than the P40
• Quad rear cameras: 50MP main + 40MP ultra-wide + 12MP telephoto w/ 5x optical zoom + ToF for better depth effects
• 32MP front camera with IR depth sensing with auto-focus
Pro 40 Pro+ – if you want the powerful zoom in a camera
• Penta-rear cameras: 50MP main + 40MP ultra-wide + 8MP w/ 3x mid-range optical zoom, + 8MP w/ 10x long-range optical zoom + ToF
• 32MP front camera with IR depth sensing with auto-focus
The P40 has the lowest RAM configuration starting at 6GB up to 8GB. The Pro models, on the other hand, only has 8GB. Storage-wise, the P40 and P40 Pro share the 128GB and 256GB offering, while the P40 Pro+ has 256GB and 512GB. All are expandable via Huawei’s NM card.
Looking at the capacities, the P40 has a 3,800mAH battery, while the Pro models have 4,200mAh. However, they differ in their fast charging capabilities. The P40 only has 22.5W wired fast-charge, while the Pros have 40W.
As for wireless charging, the P40 Pro supports up to 27W, while the P40 Pro+ has up to 40W. The P40, on the other hand, doesn’t support fast charging.
When it comes to additional features, all models have water and dust resistance. However, the P40 has a lower IP53 certification, unlike the Pro models with IP68. The Pro models also have an IR Blaster, while the P40 does not.
Now, let’s check the price. Although the P40 seems to lack some features found in its Pro siblings, it is more affordable starting at PHP 36,990. The P40 Pro, on the other hand, starts at PHP 50,990. As for the P40 Pro+, it is yet to be priced in the Philippines. If you want to go for basic features, take the P40. If you want the best cameras and fast charging technologies, go for the P40 Pro+. If you’re looking for something in the middle, the P40 Pro should be more than enough.
And there you have it. As for the rest of the specs, all three are the same. They have the Kirin 990 5G SoC, 5G connectivity, in-display fingerprint scanners, USB Type-C, and EMUI 10.1 with HMS.
