The Huawei P40 Pro brings a lot of improvements compared to the P30 Pro of last year. Looking at the display, it now has a slightly larger screen with a higher resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate.
Performance-wise, the newer Kirin 990 5G chipset will bring better performance compared to the P30 Pro’s Kirin 980. RAM capacity is almost the same, but the P40 Pro has a faster storage type. Although the P30 Pro has a higher 512GB storage option.
In terms of imaging, the P40 Pro delivers tons of improvements, especially in the features department including zoom capabilities. It has a higher camera resolution in all cameras, and new capabilities compared to the P30 Pro. For the front camera, the resolution is the same, although the P40 has extra sensors for better selfies.
In terms of connectivity, the P40 Pro offers the newer 5G, WiFi 6 Plus, and Bluetooth 5.1. For the software, it runs on EMUI 10 based on Android 10 out of the box, but instead of GMS, it has HMS. The P30 Pro, on the other hand, has GMS.
Battery capacity is the same on both devices at 4,200mAh with 40W fast charging.
Should you upgrade?
If you have the P30 Pro, you can consider upgrading to the P40 Pro if you really need the 90Hz refresh rate, 5G connectivity, and new camera features. If not, you might want to wait for next year’s flagship instead.
