- In-display fingerprint scanner
- VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge
OPPO A9 2020
- Slightly larger display size

- Slightly lower price
Starting off with the display aspect, the OPPO A9 2020’s 6.5-inch screen slightly edges out the Realme XT’s 6.4-inch screen. Despite that, the XT has the better panel with its Super AMOLED display that has an FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution, compared to the A9 2020’s IPS display with an HD+ 1600 x 720 resolution. Corning Gorilla Glass protects both smartphones. The XT trumps over the A9 2020 though, as it has a Gorilla Glass 5 both on the front and rear, in contrast to the latter device’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on its display.
Qualcomm Snapdragon provides the firepower for both devices, with the Realme XT equipped with a Snapdragon 712 chipset, while the A9 2020 has a Snapdragon 665 chipset. The two devices are armed with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable up to 256GB via a dedicated micro SD card slot. Take a look at the smartphones’ respective benchmark scores:
Benchmarks | Realme XT | OPPO A9 2020 |
---|---|---|
Geekbench | 409 (Single-Core) 1,530 (Multi-Core) | 311 (Single-Core) 1,227 (Multi-Core) |
PC Mark | 8,274 (Work 2.0) | 6,269 (Work 2.0) |
3D Mark | 2,139 (SSE – OpenGL ES 3.1) 2,023 (SSE – Vulkan) | 1,084 (SSE – OpenGL ES 3.1) 1,058 (SSE – Vulkan) |
AndroBench | 508.47 MB/s (Read) 193.82 MB/s (Write) | 517.31 MB/s (Read) 196.12 MB/s (Write) |
Update: AnTuTu scores were excluded as the A9 2020 was benchmarked using v7, while the Realme XT was benchmarked using v8.
From the results, we can see how the Realme XT’s performance takes the upper hand, winning over the A9 2020 in almost all benchmark aspects. An exception to that is the benchmark result for AndroBench, wherein the A9 2020 has a slight advantage over the XT.
Heading into the cameras section, both handsets have a set of quadruple cameras situated on the rear. The Realme XT has 64MP Samsung GW1 F1.8 main + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth snappers, while the A9 2020 has 48MP main + 8MP ultrawide + 2MP depth + 2MP mono shooters. The XT’s primary camera is larger than the A9 2020’s primary one, while both devices’ other three cameras are pretty much identical. On the front side of things, the handsets both have a 16MP shooter housed inside a notch.
When it comes to features, the XT and A9 2020 possess a 3.5mm audio jack, to the delight of wired headphones users everywhere. Both smartphones also have face unlock capability and fingerprint scanning. The key difference here is that the A9 2020 has a rear-mounted scanner, while the XT comes with an in-display scanning feature.
As for battery capacity, the A9 2020 trumps with its hefty 5,000mAh cell, in contrast to the XT’s 4,000mAh cell. The A9 2020 also comes with a reverse charging feature, allowing it to be used as a power bank. On the other hand, the Realme XT comes with a 20W VOOC 3.0 flash charging capability. We ran the smartphones in our usual video loop test and gained the following results:
- Realme XT – 23 hours and 40 minutes
- OPPO A9 2020 – 19 hours
While the A9 2020 may have a larger capacity, the Realme XT yielded us longer hours than the A9 2020. Both smartphones also come with a USB Type C port to charge up their batteries. The devices also run on ColorOS 6.0.1, based on Android 9 Pie.
Here are the prices of each smartphone:
- Realme XT (8GB + 128GB) – PHP 16,990
- OPPO A9 2020 – PHP 15,990
The smartphones have a 1,000 peso difference between them, and it’s probably the deciding factor for most consumers. If you’re strictly sticking to your budget, you can cop the A9 2020 for its massive battery capacity, reverse charging feature, and slightly larger display size. However, if you can stretch your budget by just a thousand more, it’s more ideal to cop the Realme XT as it has a Super AMOLED display, higher main camera resolution, flash charging capability, and overall a more powerful processor.
