Vivo has officially launched in the Philippines its latest premium mid-range smartphone, packing a large AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate, quad-rear cameras, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, and 5G connectivity, the Vivo X50 Pro 5G. There’s another smartphone though that features similar specs called the OnePlus Nord. Given the price and hardware, which phone do you think is better on paper? Find out below.

Summary of advantages (based on PH models available)
Vivo X50 Pro 5G:
• Slightly larger curved screen
• Telephoto camera
• Higher-resolution depth/portrait camera
• Larger storage (PH offering)
• Larger battery capacity
• Faster charging rate
OnePlus Nord:
• Slightly higher PPI count
• Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection
• Dedicated macro camera
• Ultrawide front camera
• Lower price
Looking at the display, the two devices are pretty much the same. The Vivo X50 Pro 5G’s screen is just larger by 0.12-inch, both have the same Full HD+ resolution, but the OnePlus Nord has a higher pixel count by 10. Both also have AMOLED panels with a 90Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. Given the specs, the screens of both devices are almost the same with negligible differences. However, the OnePlus Nord features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 while the Vivo X50 Pro 5G probably sports a standard scratch-resistant glass.
The two devices also sport the same chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with Adreno 620 GPU. However, the two devices offer different memory configurations. The Vivo X50 Pro 5G only has one RAM capacity across the board with two storage options. The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, has three RAM and storage options.
However, if we look at the models available in the Philippines, both units are only available one configuration — the Vivo X50 Pro 5G in 8GB + 256GB, and the OnePlus Nord in 8GB + 128GB. The former will give you the most storage space.
Camera-wise, both have quad-rear camera systems with 48MP main shooters and 8MP ultrawide. The Vivo X50 Pro 5G, however, has a dedicated 8MP telephoto, and a 13MP shooter for portraits, which has a higher resolution compared to the OnePlus Nord’s 5MP. The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, has a dedicated 2MP macro lens for those who want to shoot those kinds of photos.
For the front camera, the Vivo X50 Pro 5G has a 32MP shooter. The OnePlus Nord 5G, on the other hand, has two cameras, a 32MP main and an 8MP ultrawide, making it a more versatile camera for selfies.
Again, the megapixel count doesn’t always guarantee better image quality, so we’ll know once we have reviewed the cameras on both devices.
As for the batteries, the Vivo X50 Pro 5G wins for having 210mAh more capacity than the OnePlus Nord. It also has a faster charging rate by 3W compared to the competition. However, we’ll know which device can produce the best battery life once we’re done with our reviews.
Looking at its other features, the two devices again are almost the same. They both have Dual-SIM with 5G support, WiFi, Bluetooth, GNSS, USB Type-C, NFC, and in-display fingerprint scanner. They both run on Android 10 but using their own custom skins.
Let’s take a look at the price. The Vivo X50 Pro 5G costs PHP 39,999USD 682INR 57,783EUR 649CNY 4,964 for the 8GB + 256GB model. The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, with 8GB + 128GB is at PHP 21,990USD 375INR 31,767EUR 357CNY 2,729. That’s a whopping PHP 18,009USD 307INR 26,016EUR 292CNY 2,235 difference.
To sum it up, if you want a 5G mid-ranger but on a tight budget, you’re better off with the OnePlus Nord. But if you have a PHP 40K budget, feel free to get the more premium-looking Vivo X50 Pro 5G.
