The Xiaomi Redmi 7A arrived in the Philippines a few weeks ago with pretty reasonable pricing. Given that it is an entry-level smartphone, a lot of Filipinos will ask if this is worth their money. With that said, I placed it beside another competitor in the budget segment — the Honor 8S. See how they both fared in this episode of specs comparison.
Here are their detailed specs:

Here are the advantages of each smartphone:
For display, both of them are equipped with an HD+ resolution; however, the Redmi 7A didn’t follow the trending notch design resulting in a thicker top bezel. Not only that, but the latter also has a higher screen size making it a more viable device for watching movies or any videos.
In terms of performance, the Redmi 7A’s Snapdragon 439 has a smaller chipset architecture with eight cores while the Honor 8S’s Helio A22 is bigger and only have four cores. We’ve yet to know which one has better CPU and gaming performance. We’ll know more once we get our hands on both of these smartphones, so stay tuned for that.
For the camera department, there’s not much difference in both of the phone’s rear and front camera resolution. The main difference here is that the Honor 8S has a wider aperture, which means that it has better shutter speed and brightness of photos in low-light conditions. As I’ve said above, we’ll know more once we get our hands on them.
Feature-wise, the Honor 8S has a Bluetooth 5.0 technology which is faster and more reliable than the Redmi 7A’s Bluetooth 4.2. The former also has larger expandable storage for people who are still not satisfied with 32GB of internal storage.
Finally, the battery performance of the Redmi 7A is better than the Honor 8S. Aside from its larger battery capacity and smaller display, the former has a more optimized and power-efficient chipset than the latter. This means that the Xiaomi’s device will last longer than Honor’s.
Here are the prices of each smartphone:
Both are great entry-level phones, but if you are more into performance and battery life, go with the Redmi 7A. If you are fond of watching and streaming videos; however, choose the Honor 8S.
