Xiaomi recently unveiled their concept smartphone, the Mi Mix Alpha. It stunned the world with its connected front and back display, along with a whopping 108MP image sensor. Let’s take a look at its best features.
Table of Contents
The Mi Mix Alpha features a display that wraps around almost the entire device. Different from a foldable smartphone, the Mix Alpha has a screen upfront, extending all the way to the rear. Xiaomi notes that the handset has a 180.6% screen-to-body ratio, something that’s certainly uncommon in most smartphones.
As the Mix Alpha has an almost full-device display, Xiaomi has also dealt away with physical buttons on the sides. The in-display buttons rely on haptic feedback; they’re pressure-sensitive, simulating the touch of real buttons when pressed. Apart from the buttons, the sides will also show the phone’s status and notifications.
The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, Snapdragon 855+, will be powering up the Mi Mix Alpha. SD855+ is the successor to the SD855, Along with that is a huge 12GB RAM, allowing users to do their tasks without a hitch. Not only that, graphics-heavy games on the Mi Mix Alpha will run as smooth as butter.
The only non-display part of the Mi Mix Alpha is a strip sits on the rear, housing the triple cameras, with one of them being a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor. It has up to 8x zoom and is capable of shooting photos at a 12032 x 9024-pixel resolution Apart from that, the Mix Alpha will also sport a 12MP depth sensor and a 20MP ultra-wide camera. Due to the surround display, the Mix Alpha’s cameras act both as the rear and front cameras. Users need to just flip the handset over if they want to take selfies.
Seeing that the Mi Mix Alpha has very slim bezels, Xiaomi opted to use a “display acoustic technology” for the device. Instead of the usual earpiece, Xiaomi’s display acoustic technology replaces both the speaker and the proximity sensor.
Xiaomi has stated that the top and bottom parts of the Mix Alpha are crafted titanium alloy, ceramics, and sapphire to create a “one-of-a-kind” smartphone. The cameras are also protected by sapphire glass.
The Mi Mix Alpha is set to debut with 5G connectivity. 5G is recently becoming the standard connectivity feature of the newest flagship smartphones and of course, this concept device wouldn’t be a stranger to that. Xiaomi has also stated that the Mi Mix Alpha supports 5G bands of three major carriers in Mainland China.
Xiaomi has not yet unveiled when the Mi Mix Alpha will be available for purchase. It’s priced at CNY 19,999 (~PHP 146,767).
