Plenty of households in the Philippines have air conditioning units due to the hot weather, especially during summer. With high electricity rates and long periods of use, electric bills can be a problem. That can be managed if you can monitor and regulate your aircon’s power consumption, but how do you do that? Fortunately, our friends from Carrier Philippines has a solution in the form of the Carrier Smart+Cool System.
To test this solution, Carrier Philippines sent us a Smart+Cool System (Carrier Window Room Aircon + Smart+Cool Plug + Smart+Cool App) which contains a window-type inverter air conditioner and a Carrier Smart+Cool plug. The Carrier Smart+Cool plug is basically a wall socket adapter for your aircon unit but with smart features. It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and with the help of an app, allows you to monitor the aircon’s power consumption. Let’s start with the setup.
Before plugging your aircon, attach the power plug to the Smart+Cool plug and insert it into a power socket. If the lights turn green and red at the same time, it means that it is ready for configuration.
Do note that the air con won’t switch on right away as it needs to be configured by the app first, so download the Smart Cool app in the Google PlayStore or the Apple Store. Launch the app and register an account.
Once you’re done with your account, you can now start pairing your phone with the Smart+Cool plug. When it asks for a BT Pin, you can find it in the bottom of the plug and the box. This is to make sure that no one else can access your Smart+Cool plug. From here you can also connect the Smart+Cool plug to your home WiFi, allowing you to control it even when you’re outside of your home.
When the LED indicator in the Smart+Cool plug has turned completely green, that means that it has successfully paired. You can now go to the app’s dashboard and hold the tile for two seconds to sync the aircon with the plug. At this point, the aircon is already running, so you can now start using its features.
From the dashboard, you will immediately see all the features available to you, namely Consumption, Consumption Alert, Scheduler, Maintenance Alert, Service Request, and Bluetooth.
First up is the Consumption section which helps users check how much power the aircon is consuming per hour/day/week/month/year. By default, the graph is in Pesos (Php) but users can also check the current Kilo-Watt-Hour rate by simply hitting the switch just below timeline option.
Next is the Consumption Alert where users can configure and set limits in power consumption and estimated costs. Let’s say you have set a budget of Php100, the app will notify you once you have reached your limit.
The third one is the Scheduler which allows you to schedule your aircon’s operating times. This is a very handy feature as you can control when your aircon should turn on and off, and for how long it should run. And since it’s connected to a network, you can switch on your aircon remotely and come home to a cool room right away.
The Maintenance Reminder basically works like the Consumption Alert wherein the app notifies the users when the unit is already due for cleaning. Remember that a well-maintained aircon will perform efficiently.
Next is the Service Request where a user can contact customer support for questions and help. So if you have concerns about the product, you can easily reach the right people. You can chat with them real-time or request for a call back if you have a preferred schedule.
Last but not the least is the Bluetooth option where users can modify and edit their current plug or register another Smart+Cool plug for the other aircon units at home.
Based on our personal experience, the Smart+Cool system is not just convenient but is also effective in managing and monitoring your aircon unit. Those who are concerned about power consumption and costs will greatly benefit from this.
For those interested, the Smart+Cool system is available as bundle (Carrier Window Room Aircon + Smart+cool plug + Smart+cool App). Available units for the bundle are Optima (0.5 HP/0.75HP/1.0HP), iCool Green (1.0HP/1.5HP/2.0 HP/2.5 HP) and Window Room Inverter (1.0 HP/1.5 HP/2.0HP)
So there you have it! What do you guys think of this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

I forgot the credentials of our Carrier Smart+Cool smart plug, and when I was trying to connect to pair it again, it gives the error – “Pairing Failed – Plug is assocxiate with another user”. How can I reset the plug to its default state?
Dr. Bass says:
THE APP / SMART PLUG ENCOUNTERS ERRORS ALL OF THE TIME. SUDDENLY YOU CAN’T TURN ON THE AC WITH THE APP AND EVEN WITH THE REMOTE WHEN IT IS PLUGGED VIA THE SMART PLUG. I HAVE TRIED THEIR ONLINE HELP CHAT AND THEY WOULD RESET THE PLUG REMOTELY THEN IT WOULD BE FINE AGAIN. BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS THE ERROR RECURS… AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF THIS RECURRING ERROR I ENDED UP JUST REMOVING THE SMART PLUG AND JUST PLUGGING THE AC DIRECTLY INTO THE WALL SOCKET THEN I JUST USED THE STANDARD REMOTE CONTROL TO SWITCH ON/OFF THE AC. WHAT A WASTE!!! AND TO THINK I HAD TO PAY AN EXTRA PHP5,000 FOR THE DUMB SMART PLUG!!! DONT BUY THIS GIMMICKY CRAP!!!
Stephanie Joy Seno says:

Manny_Cavalier says:
Why is this not available for their split-type models? What’s the maximum amperage it can handle? Can this be bought separately?
Jan says:
Awts. I just bought an Optima AC and it doesn’t include this yet. How I wish Carrier can give me one. Hahaha
