2020 is the year of 5G smartphones. Both Motorola and OPPO have recently brought its latest mid-range, 5G smartphones to make the technology reachable for all consumers. A few days ago, Lenovo launched the Moto G 5G Plus in the Philippines. On the other hand, OPPO recently announced its latest, the Reno4 Z 5G. Sporting 5G connectivity and quad rear cameras, how do these smartphones differ from each other? Find out below.

The Moto G 5G Plus and the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G have FHD+ LCDs in terms of display. However, the former has a slightly bigger coverage at 2520 x 1080, an LTPS screen, and 409 PPI versus the latter’s 2400 x 1080, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, IPS screen, and 401 PPI. The Moto G 5G Plus is also bigger at 5 6.7-inch than the Reno4 Z’s 6.57-inch. Motorola has HDR10 support and has a 90Hz refresh rate. Although the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G didn’t indicate if it supports HDR content, it has a faster refresh and touch sampling rates at 120Hz that indicates smoother animations and optimized gaming.
Both smartphones run on different processors. The Moto G 5G Plus is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G mated with an Adreno 650 graphics, while a MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor powers the Reno4 Z 5G with a Mali-G57 MC4. We don’t have the AnTuTu score for the Moto yet, but based on the OnePlus Nord that uses the same chipset, it got 328,190. The story is the same as the Reno4 Z is a newly launched device. However, based on its AnTuTu score, it has a score of 325,776.
Memory-wise, both have 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Moto has expandable storage through a standard microSD. Meanwhile, OPPO doesn’t have one.
The Moto G 5G Plus and the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G have quad rear cameras. Both have the same 48MP main and 8MP ultra-wide sensors. However, the former has a Quad-Pixel main sensor, a higher resolution 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor, while the latter has a 2MP monochrome and 2MP macro sensors for its rear cameras. As for the front cameras, both have dual front cameras with 16MP main sensors, an 8MP ultra-wide secondary sensor for the Moto G 5G Plus, and a 2MP depth for the Reno4 Z 5G.
In terms of connectivity, both smartphones come with 5G and 4G LTE. Both have NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, face unlock, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack, and WiFi 5. The Ren04 Z has Dirac 2.0-certified speakers with Hi-Res audio certification, while the Moto G 5G Plus has standard dual stereo speakers. In terms of navigation, the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G Plus has additional Beidou and QZSS GPS systems, while the Moto G 5G Plus has LTEEP and SUPL. The Moto G 5G Plus also gets a water-repellent coating for its outer shell that protects the device from splashes and accidental spills.
Although both run under Android 10 for the software, the Moto runs Android 10 out of the box while the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G uses the customized ColorOS 7.1 skin.
For the battery department, the Moto G 5G has a 5,000mAh capacity and a charging rate of 20W, larger than the 4,000mAh and faster than the Reno4 Z 5G’s 18W.
As for the price, the Moto G 5G Plus is priced at PHP 16,990, while the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G is exclusively available on Smart and Globe for PHP 20,990 with corresponding postpaid plans and cashout fees. The latter comes with a free Rock Space EB51 Earbuds worth PHP 3,199. This makes the Moto G 5G Plus more affordable by PHP 4,000.
If you’re just looking for a solid mid-ranger with 5G, then the Moto G 5G Plus is for you. However, if you want a better display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and have extra money to spend, then go for the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G.
