OPPO Find N3 Flip: Vertical Cover Screen

Which Cover Screen is the Best?

Among the many types of foldable smartphones, flip phones are the most popular. Partly because they remind us of those clamshell-type phones from decades ago and because this form factor has the smallest footprint and is the most practical.

Apart from the manageable size, what makes it practical is the Cover Display, which offers a multitude of features that are very useful and extend the capabilities of a phone.

Now, with the new OPPO Find N3 Flip, users can enjoy an improved cover screen experience designed to deliver improved usability, best-in-class camera performance, and an impressive certification to withstand over 1,000,000 folds.

The Design.

In order for the Cover Display to be very useful, it needs to follow the same (or pretty close) aspect ratio as the main display.

In the case of the OPPO Find N3, the main display has a 21:9 aspect ratio and the Cover Display has an 18:9.5 aspect ratio – not exactly the same, but pretty close. This means the apps running on the main display will look and function the same.

Furthermore, the camera sensor on the Find N3 Flip (and its predecessor, the Find N2 Flip) has the same aspect ratio as the display. This is pretty clever, actually. Since one of the main uses of the Cover Display is for the camera preview, the entire shot is shown on the Cover Display with no cropping whatsoever.

This Cover Display aspect ratio also offers some practical advantages. You get more usable screen real estate with common apps like Tiktok, YouTube and even the SMS app. When reading text messages using the Cover Display, you can read up to five (5) SMS lines before scrolling down to read any further messages. Though the screen is still a little bit small to compose messages, OPPO includes built-in and customizable quick replies, as well as speech-to-text support to add more functionality and allow you to use the phone even when the cover is closed.

Apps and Widget Support.

When the Find N2 Flip came out, it only supported limited native and third-party apps optimized for the new cover screen orientation. Later on, firmware updates gave the flip phone additional 3rd-party app support.

This time around, with the upgraded functionality of the Find N3 Flip’s cover screen, there is wider support for 3rd-party apps. This includes the most commonly used apps like Google Maps, GMail, YouTube, Tiktok, Spotify, Netflix, and many more. Now, you can quickly check your email or search for map directions straight from the cover screen.

As mentioned earlier, the aspect ratio of the Cover Display will perfectly fit the vast majority of Android apps out there. Nevertheless, OPPO worked closely with Google and 3rd-party developers to make their apps work flawlessly on the cover screen.

OPPO has also upgraded the vertical cover screen’s home screen by adding support for dynamic widgets (maximum of 3) that allow you to quickly access features like your camera, voice notes, weather, or even shortcut straight to a messaging app.

The Find N3 Flip’s cover screen comes with a familiar apps menu that is easy to use with gesture controls, it takes no time to get used to.

Find N3 Flip bringing back interactive cover screen pets and upgrading them from 2D to 3D. You have more pets to pick from – including a Bird, Cat, Dog, Hamster, Koala, Panda, Rabbit, and Tiger. These animated fur babies wander about and just being cute, like listening to music or simply snoozing.

More Room for a Great Camera.

OPPO introduced the world’s first triple camera system on a flip phone. For the Find N3 Flip to be able to support multiple sensors, the placement of the main camera module has to be optimal and they managed to do it without compromise.

The main sensor of the Find N3 Flip is a Sony IMX 890, a large and powerful sensor that was also used in the Find X6 Pro’s twin secondary cameras.

This is paired with a Sony IMX709 sensor in an ultrawide camera and a Sony IMX 581 sensor for a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The optical zoom is also a first in a flip phone and a testament to the engineering prowess of OPPO.

And mind you, all three cameras have built-in AF and are Hasselblad-tuned.
