Been having problems with FireFox lately. It’s been freezing and it’s very erratic. Not sure why but it just does that when ever I load pages. Then it just stops responding. I usually had to end the application and process in task manager before I can fire it up again.
I checked for updates and there was none.
When that happens, I often switch to my second browser of choice — Flock. If only Flock had the same extension features like FireFox, I might be using it more often.
Good thing I have the session saver extension installed in FireFox so I am able to restore the pages/sites I left off when I closed Firefox. Maybe I need to re-install this baby.

Hi,
There should be a firefox.exe there somewhere. If not, try going to the Programs folder and delete the Firefox directory and edit your Registry by running regedit and searching for any Firefox keyword in it.
what do you mean exactly by “edit your Registry by running regedit and searching for any Firefox keyword in it.” ????
HELP please… thanks yuga

Exactly – I began having the same problems with Firefox beginning on 11 May 2008. However, it’s a great browser and I trust there will be a fix made available shortly. Until then – I’m using my mac’s safari (which I’m starting to like more and more because of the Firefox problem!).

Hi.
I’m using firefox, but have a problem.
Even though I shut the computer down properly last night, when I turned it on this morning and tried to access the internet with firefox, it offers me two choices “restore previous page” or “start new session”. I know this is a useful tool at times, but in this case, regardless of which one I choose, it opens to a frozen page, one which is blank, with just the mozilla logo at the top, the other of which has three tabs open, also frozen.
Any advice? I don’t want to delete firefox and reinstall because I don’t want to lose my bookmarked sites and saved sites, but I don’t know if I have another option.

Another problem with Firefox lately. Consider my case: The Dealio toolbar installed itself in my FF. When I uninstall it, there’s this message window (Search Settings Notification) which always pops up everytime I refresh or go to a webpage. I can’t do anything with it and it’s already a nuisance. I’m begging for help. Else, I’ll use my Opera browser instead.

I had the freezing issue as well, but it only happened when I did a search on Google. The results would show and then freeze for about 5 seconds, then carry on. I went to Netscape Navigator and it was fine till I added all my plug-ins. I figured it had to be a plug-in that was Google related. After disabling all my plug-ins and adding them back one at a time, it did indeed turn out to be McAfee Site Advisor. I took it out and turned all my usual plug-ins back on and problem solved.
I also saw all the articles regarding Google Toolbar but that was not the issue for me as I uninstalled it and the problem persisted.
Hope this helps some, and I am relieved. This was driving me crazy.

Having the same problem. Intermittant freezes every 5-to-10 seconds, ever since the latest version of FF was installed. This is a VERY SERIOUS issue, I’ll have to dump firefox if it is not corrected soon, or if they can’t properly test their new versions before taking them out of beta…

This happened all of a sudden after many months of working fine (and only to some links). I can still use all the links in Explorer.

Hi Yuga
I truly hope you can help where others have failed. To help you to understand what the nature of my problem with Firefox I will list out chronologically the events:
1. First noticed that the pointer would freeze momentarily – about 5 secs or so – before service returns to me. It would do that fairly regularly; something like every 10-15 secs, the same nonsense would occur
2. Then I noticed that the problem wasn’t only confined to the pointer but also affects ANYTHING to do with the browser. I couldn’t access the file menu or shortcuts. I couldn’t use CTRL+TAB to switch tabs also. I couldn’t open or close tabs.
3. Next part of my observation was that this problem was confined to Firefox. I have no freezing problems afflicting eg. MS Word or any of the other programs. For example, uTorrent still plugs on in the background.
4. Tried the first level of attempted correction. Shut down and restarted Firefox. No cure. I was running 2.0.0.3.
5. I then realised that Firefox was downloading ver 2.0.0.2!!!! How could that happen when I was already using ver 2.0.0.3? To avoid complicating matters, I actually allows Firefox to complete the download and install 2.0.0.2. After that Firefox reported that I NOW have the most updated release, which of course, doesn’t make sense at all.
6. Ran Firefox 2.0.0.2 to determine if the same freezing problems persisted. They did. So I downloaded 2.0.0.3 and installed to see if they would go away. They didn’t.
7. My next suspicion was levelled at plug-ins. I began to do a mental audit of what I might have installed of late prior to the freezing problems surfacing and the answer was McAfee SiteAdvisor. As good and useful as the plug-in was, I decided to first disable it. That didn’t help.
8. Then I uninstalled SiteAdvisor altogether. That also didn’t solve the problem.
9. A quick check of all installed plug-ins include the following: Roboform, AdBlock, SiteAdvisor (now uninstalled), foreign languages, Customise Google, Google Toolbar, Hyperwords, SixSense, Keyscrambler, Torrent Finder, Talkback, Video Downloader, Flickr Uploader and safe.xpi. I believe that Talkback and safe.xpi were preinstalled by Firefox for error reporting purposes because I could not recall installing them myself.
10. I began to ask for advice in my preparation to downgrade Firefox for ver 2.0 since I had read amongst some forums that this version had no problems at all (I was wrong!)
11. Exported my bookmarks and did a worded list of my plug-ins so that should I choose to in the future, I would know what to reinstall
12. Forgot to mention that my ThinkPad was constantly alerting me that the latest Java version was available. I had been ignoring it for weeks but this time had decided to install it.
13. Uninstalled Firefox 2.0.0.3, skipped 2.0.0.2 (for obvious reasons) and installed 2.0. Problems still persist. Getting a little frustrated now. It’s not that Firefox was unusable. It’s just that there is that persistent freezing problem that inevitably slows me down. You can see the freeze because the ‘process wheel’ just stops circling abruptly for 5 secs before it resumes.
14. Decided this time to gradually uninstall the plug-ins beginning with Hyperwords, Sixsense and the foreign languages (except for English (Aust)). Restarted Firefox. Problems still there.
15. Next to be uninstalled were Keyscrambler. That also didn’t help.
16. Then came the decision to do an almost-complete cleanup. Uninstalled were Roboform, Dictionary Lookup Extension, Flickr Uploader, Video Downloader and Torrent Finder Toolbar.
17. On reading a reader’s comment on your forum (yugatech), he said that after uninstalling the Google toolbar, everything was fine. I thought that was great; so I also uninstalled CustomiseGoogle and Google Toolbar as well. Sad to say, that was false alarm. Everything was no different.
18. Now I’m left with the following plug-ins: Adblock Plus, English (Aust) language, Download Statusbar. Talkback and safe.xpi were not uninstallable.
19. That’s where I’m at now. Despite having most of my plug-ins uninstalled and Firefox restarted, the problem is still there.
20. I noticed that shortly after closing down Firefox and then restarting it, Windows would report that it was not possible to restart because Firefox was still running. A quick check of the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) under Processes revealed that firefox.exe was still lurking. Persisting with the view also revealed that it took a little time but firefox.exe did eventually disappear from the list, which prompted me to think of something else. Could it be that some glitch in Firefox has affected the stability of Windows XP Pro?
21. Read elsewhere in your forum that people use a web browser called Flock, which I admit I had not heard of . So I’m gonna try that one out until Firefox gets sorted out. I’m not too sure about Flock as far as what websites don’t support its use. That’s worrying.
* * * * *
Sorry for the length of this but I hope you can get a better picture now. Thanks for your help in anticipation. And hoping you can sort this out for me.
K.

A very interesting thing. The mouse is faulty. A lesson in statistics I guess.
If I dowload 100 packages and a mouse lasts maybe 1000 days, then its 10 to 1 that the mouse will fail coincident with a download.
Hmmm

Upgraded to fx 2.0 yesterday ( because ebay is requesting everyone to) and my mouse keeps hanging and disappearing. I reloaded ver 1.0.4 and its fine again.

Thanks,

Firefox 1.5.0.7 just installed this a.m. and now having trouble resolvings various URLs. Firefox is REVERSING / separators with \ … weird!!!

What in the world is causing Firefox to REVERSE / symbols to \ in URL addresses?

yeah, i still don’t want to move to Firefox 1.5..would it work if you uninstall your current Firefox and then use an old installer like let’s say, Firefox 1.0.7 and use that? coz i still have the installer for that in my files.

Firefox 1.5 still have some memory leak issues with it. If only I could revert back to 1.07. :(

Weird mine too. This started I think when I upgraded to the 1.5 version. When I used the .8 or .7 (I think), it used to be more reliable.

me too, i’ve been having that same kind of problem lately..i’d open several sites in different tabs and then suddenly it would say page error or something then i would have to refresh the tabs or close it..when this happens i also go to my Flock browser..hehe :)

My FF freezes up after I listen (one after the other) to about 4 podcasts loaded in separate tabs. If I just listen to a couple and just do plain surfing, it does not hang.
