After less than a month of Beta testing, RIM has recently released the latest version of their popular communication app, the BlackBerry Messenger 7.
Although much of the sought after feature of BBM is still pretty much intact in this new version, the BBM 7 offers an array of minor enhancements geared towards a simpler and better way of communicating with your BBM contacts.
In cased you’ve missed, we actually posted an article last month about some of the features of the BBM 7, including its key feature which is the BBM Voice. Through BBM Voice, BlackBerry users can make/take calls to/from other BBM 7 users over Wi-Fi connection.
One would argue that the principle behind BBM Voice is already an old trick in the book and that there are other apps in the market which offers similar functionality and more (calls over 3G/4G network). However, the reason why RIM released such feature is not to compete with other apps, rather to give BBM users a whole new way for them to communicate with each other through free VOIP.
In addition, the company is planning to improve BBM in the future by including features such as voice calls over 3G/4G connection and even video calling. There’s no set date when they plan to release these said functionalities but it’s something that BlackBerry users can all look forward to.
So have you tried calling your BBM friends via BBM Voice? If so, how was the experience?

I own a 2-year old BlackBerry Torch 9800 and haven’t used it for quite sometime now. When I saw news about Blackberry’s enhancements onits apps like BBM and Facebook, I tried using using Torch 9800 using my Smart freedom plan. I was a bit surprised that still a lot of people i know are using BlackBerry and has BBM still. Two days ago I got a call from BBM. Its was quick but a clear one. Although I’m still using Samsung Galaxy S3 with my Globe line on it, I’m looking forward on owning a new BlackBerry 10 device once it is launched on January.
