Twenty-four hours later, over 7 Million downloads were made for Firefox 3 worldwide surpassing the 5M target by Mozilla. In comparison, Opera 9.5 had 4.7 million downloads in its first 5 days after the June 12 release.
In the South East Asian region, the Philippines contributed over 26,000 downloads. What’s surprising though is that among the SEA countries, Vietnam took the top spot with close to 34,000 downloads. For a small and upcoming country, Vietnam sure does made an impression in the IT circles.
Here’s the rundown of the rest:
Vietnam – 33,863
Singapore – 27,397
Malaysia – 27,156
Philippines – 26,201
Thailand – 23,894
Indonesia – 19,775
*Figures taken at 1:08am MST
Mozilla could have done better than this figure if their server didn’t go down during the first few hours of rush time.
Finally, a good post about this subject! I can not believe I had to go thru like 20 blogs just to come across this excellent post. All their content together still can not equal the content of this article. I have learned a lot and will bookmark your web page. Maintain up the good job!
im not really suprised about Vietnam coming up at the top spot because in SEA, Vietnam has the most number of broadband subscribers at 1.8 million compared to Philippines which has only 967 thousand.
As an Opera fan, I still don’t get it.
What is there in Firefox that Opera doesn’t have?
I use the torrent site to download fx3. Does it counts?
I think majority of our users are just renting from the shops and don’t have their own PC. Maybe on friendster mag #1 pa tayo…
@Bigbird
Wow. 7M is a lot!! I downloaded it too and it’s quite fast! :D Vietnam got ahead of us? Quite unbelievable, but maybe the Philippines really lag behind in terms of IT in S.E.A. Tsk tsk…
to think of it, the ratio of our population to those who have internet over the ratio of people who really know how to use the internet. kawawa naman tyo.
All my important add-ons are supported tapos meron pang bago na maganda.
@Cesar Noel: firebug is working on mine.
Hehe… well Viet Nam already took over the Philippines ;) Their government have to pass laws to control online usage, imagine that. There are just too many Generation X and Generation Y in VietNam today, compared to our country.
Oh, the region is now referred to as “Asean” ;) gone are the days of “SEA” ^_^
Cesar,
Firebug has officially supported FF3 for about a week now. You may be running an older version of Firebug. You’ll need version 1.2 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843
I downloaded 3, one for my mac and 2 for my XP and vista laptops…. So far so good with my mac but very unfortunate with my XP, it crushed twice as soon as I first launch it. sigh.
thats not bad… hindi naman kasi lahat ng filipino may PC plus most of those people who have PC uses Internet Explorer..
So small number! To bad!
Perhaps we local Firefox fans could’ve done more in promoting Download Day. Still, kudos to Mozilla for this new world record.
I just download FF3 and I was disappointed because they didn’t have supports on some of my favorite add-ons (Firebug in particular)
Philippines is on top 4
