Gadget Reviews Roundup: April 2017

And just like that, we’re done with April, but it has left us with amazing devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8+, LG G6, and the Lenovo Phab2 Pro. So if you missed our review last month, then read our Gadget Reviews Roundup for April 2017.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X

Is the Redmi Note 4X an upgrade to its MediaTek variant? Not exactly. While the Snapdragon 625 is a welcome change, the sacrifices made to keep the pricing at par with the former is disappointing. We do miss the cold aluminum block but if you’re going to put in a case, it wouldn’t matter. We didn’t see any major performance upgrade too but since Snapdragon makes more efficient chips, we do get a better battery life.

Samsung Galaxy S8+

After two generations, Samsung has made a major design change to the flagship Galaxy S series and the Galaxy S8+ has already made it to the very edge of an immersive smartphone experience. It’s got everything you’d want in a flagship smartphone and a little bit more.

LG G6

Nothing fancy. Nothing gimmicky. It’s a proper flagship — big, gorgeous display, great performance, very nice dual-camera setup, good battery performance — just the right amount of goodness peppered all over the G6.

ASUSPRO P5430UF

The ASUSPRO P5430UF is not your typical laptop that’s mostly used for answering emails or browsing the web. It’s a productivity laptop that caters to corporate types and those who manage SMBs. It runs Windows 10 Pro for extra features, a fingerprint reader for extra security, and a slew of ports so it can easily connect to almost all peripherals in the office.

Vivo Y53

The Vivo Y53 is not a successor to the last year’s Y55 but rather an update to the 2015’s Y51. Despite being a fresh release in the country, it recently got a price cut to Php5,990 making it a thousand peso cheaper than before. For Php6k, though, some local OEMs already have a beefier budget phone with an HD display and a more competent shooter.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro

The Lenovo Phab2 Pro has ticked a number of items in our checklist. It has a premium feel due to its metal body, has a sharp and vibrant display for watching videos and playing games, comes with Dolby Atmos that works best with a pair of headphones, features Project Tango which is always fun to play around with, a capable Snapdragon 652 CPU, and its fast-charging capabilities.

Lenovo A6600 Plus

With the rise in hybrid SIM trays on newer devices, the Lenovo A6600 Plus has the advantage in providing dual-SIM connectivity and expandable storage with their dedicated slots, along with a good screen to body ratio and stock Android Marshmallow OS on board. The quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage are good enough for light to moderate tasks.

RJ Armadillo Bluetooth Speakers

For Php2,499, the RJ Armadillo offers balanced sound quality, and on top of that is the quality build with waterproofing and shock resistance. It’s also lightweight which is great for travel.

SoundPEATS QY7 Bluetooth Earphones

The SoundPEATS QY7 is a practical Bluetooth earphone for an active lifestyle. Its deep bass is suited for a workout and fast-paced songs plus the changeable tips are a welcome addition just in case you like to keep the device on your ear.

LG PH3 Candle Bluetooth Speaker

Overall, the LG PH3 Candle speaker delivers decent audio with a lightweight solution, offers a very simple way of wirelessly listening to the music you love. The added lighting can also help set the mood when you’re alone or with a company.

Q Acoustics BT3

With a price tag of Php29,500, we were initially disappointed that at that range, it doesn’t even include a subwoofer. But experiencing its high-quality performance made us realize that all the tech magic is concentrated to make it deliver Hi-Fi audio that’s easily compatible with music, movie, and gaming use.
