ROG Ally X officially unveiled in Computex 2024

The ASUS ROG Ally X has been officially unveiled in Taiwan at Computex 2024. The handheld is set to provide improved cooling, more storage, faster memory, and longer battery life.

Users should also be pleased to find better joysticks and ergonomics, along with a sleek black colorway. The Ally X also has 1TB of SSD storage, which is the largest of any Ally to date.
If readers should find this lacking, the new motherboard will also help users upgrade storage easily. There’s even a massive memory bump, with 24GB of DDR5 RAM for faster processing.

In other words, players can now allocate more memory to both the system and the graphics card for higher performance. This should bode well for the next generation of AAA game titles.

For battery, the Ally X packs a 80Wh battery. This is double of what the usual capacity for Ally handhelds were prior. The new thermals also feature smaller fans, with thinner fan blades for better airflow.

In terms of design, the new device has slightly deeper handles with a more rounded shape without adding thickness. These changes were made with the goal of improving ergonomics.

The buttons and sticks are also arranged a bit differently to address handling. Likewise, the triggers are also a tad bit slanted for easier pressing. The macro buttons on the back are also smaller to reduce accidental touches.

As for the joysticks, they have stiffer springs for a more familiar response curve. Longtime controller users should notice the change, as these have been rated for a 5 million cycle lifespan.

The D-Pad also has some tweaks, with a more precise 8-direction input made for fighting and retro games. Lastly, the new Ally X also features two (2) USB Type-C ports. These replace the XG Mobile Port, with one of them being Thunderbolt-compatible.

This is a nice change, intended for compatibility with third-party docks and external GPUs. The ROG Ally X is priced at USD 799, which is roughly around PHP 47K.

We’ll update readers as soon as ASUS has the official local pricing and availability for the device soon. But anyway, what do you guys think of the new ROG Ally X? Share your thoughts below!
