realme has announced its latest smartphone series with the realme 12 5G lineup. In this article, we’re going to be talking about the base version of the device: the realme 12+ 5G.
After spending some time with the realme 12+ 5G, we have listed our favorite features for the device. For the realme 12 Pro+ 5G, you can check that out in our website.
Table of Contents
Unique Style
One of the first things that will catch your eye with the realme 12+ 5G is the design of the phone.
You have a center camera island positioned right at the middle with a sleek-looking halo ring around it. The back panel is made out of a premium vegan leather and it is a wonderful sight to gaze upon.
The phone was co-designed by Ollivier Savéo — a luxury watch designer. He has made different designs for Swiss jewelry and watch brands like Rolex.
You can be sure you are getting a sweet-looking phone right out of the box. You also have two different colorways to choose from: Navigator Beige and Pioneer Green for those who want a splash of color on their devices.
A First in Smartphone Cameras
In our opinion, one of the best features of the realme 12+ 5G is the camera system it comes with.
You get a triple rear camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP SonyLYT600 main sensor with an aperture of f/1.88, an 8MP 112 degree Wide Angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and lastly we have a 2MP macro sensor. It has a 16MP front camera for selfies.
The realme 12+ 5G can capture clear and detailed photographs in well-lit environments, capturing colors accurately without them being too saturated. Though quality does drop slightly at night photography or low light settings, you still get a pretty decent camera.
With Portrait Mode, they are able to select and grab the subject accurately before blurring the background behind. It does take around 2 seconds for the photo to load, but the results come out almost well. No need to get a third-party app to retouch your photos here.
Selfie shots are very decent as well with skin tones being replicated as accurate to real life. You also will not struggle with navigating around the camera’s UI too as the realme’s system is easy to understand.

Display
Next, the realme 12+ 5G display.
The realme 12+ 5G has 92.65% screen-to-body ratio, making the bezels of the panel almost not as evident. Scrolling through social media and watching videos has been a treat as you go through the device with its 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that has up to 120Hz refresh rate. True blacks and almost true to life hues can be seen here as colors are vibrant and not over saturated.
You also get a screen that has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits with support of up to 4,096 levels of brightness. This guarantees that you are able to watch or check out anything on the realme 12+ 5G no matter how bright your location is.
Listening to anything with the device is loud too with its dual stereo speakers. They have a punchy bass and I never felt the need to set the volume at its maximum. If you own wired earphones, though, it also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack. That is a rare sight these days so kudos to realme for adding this.
And did I mention that there is also an in-display fingerprint sensor?
Impressive Battery & Charging Tech
The realme 12+ 5G is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC Charge support. You can be sure that charging the device will be pretty quick as it takes less than an hour to charge the device from 20% to a full charge.
When I used the realme 12+ 5G, it was able to last almost the whole as I used it to play video games, watch movies, go through social media, and take videos and photos.
Our PCMark’s Work 3.0 battery test got us a result of lasted 16 hours and 22 minutes while in our proprietary battery loop test, which involves the unit being in airplane mode, muted, and 50% brightness the realme 12+ 5G got a result of 20 hours and 6 minutes.
Verdict
While we have yet to know the official price of the realme 12+ 5G, you can be sure that this guy is a decent daily driver. For those who love taking photographs on their phone, this may be the one for you. It has a long lasting battery life, a neat display, and a beautiful phone design.
