Intel has just launched its latest Xeon workstation processors, the Xeon W-3500 and Xeon W-2500 series. These new processors, part of the ‘Sapphire Rapids Refresh,’ are designed to meet the growing compute needs of professionals in AI, machine learning, and other data-intensive fields.
The Xeon W-3500 series now offers up to 60 cores and 120 threads, with up to 4.8 GHz turbo frequency and 112.5 MB of L3 cache. The top model, the Xeon W9-3595X, provides a 26% faster performance in AI and data science workloads compared to its predecessor. This model features 60 cores and has 35W more power than its predecessor, with a total power consumption of 385W. It is priced at USD 5,889PHP 345,599INR 499,092EUR 5,608CNY 42,862, or about (~PHP 330,500USD 5,632INR 477,440EUR 5,364CNY 41,015).
The more affordable Xeon W-2500 series includes up to 26 cores and 52 threads, with the top model, Xeon W9-2595X, offering a 250W power consumption and retailing for USD 2,039PHP 119,660INR 172,805EUR 1,942CNY 14,840, approximately (~PHP 114,400USD 1,949INR 165,262EUR 1,857CNY 14,197). This series gained two cores over its predecessor and delivers up to 11% higher multithreaded performance.
Both series support up to eight memory channels and up to 4TB of DDR5-4800 memory with ECC and RAS support, ensuring data integrity and system reliability. They also offer up to 112 CPU PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes on the Xeon W-3500 processors and up to 64 lanes on the Xeon W-2500 processors for multi-GPU and high-speed storage configurations.
Additional features include Intel’s 3rd Generation Deep Learning Boost and AVX-512 support for enhanced AI performance, integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6E, and continued overclocking support for unlocked processors. The processors are available for order as of August 28, 2024, and will be included in systems from partners like HP, Dell, and Lenovo starting in September.
The Xeon W processor family starts at USD 609PHP 35,739INR 51,613EUR 580CNY 4,432 (about ~PHP 34,200USD 583INR 49,405EUR 555CNY 4,244) for the entry-level Xeon w3-2525, scaling up to the Xeon W9-3595X. These processors aim to provide professionals with the power and reliability needed for complex and demanding tasks.
