Kaspersky executive denies allegations against software

Russia-based cybersecurity firm Kaspersky denies allegations made by the US government concerning their antivirus software as a security threat.

In an issued statement, Kaspersky said the ban on their products/services would not affect their capacity to sell and promote.

The firm also stresses that the US government only relies on “geopolitical climate and theoretical concerns”.

This issue stems from an alleged link between Kaspersky and the Russian government. The US noted that the entities could pose an “undue or unacceptable risk to the country’s national security”.

The US also notes that the firm does most of its operations in Russia. Further, the company’s nature and owner make them subject to Russian law.

The US said that their decision to ban Kaspersky was well supported. The risks towards the country’s national security were addressed in a Final Determination.

This stemmed not from whether Kaspersky’s products are effective at identifying viruses and malware, but if they could be used strategically to cause harm in the United States.

  1. Speaking of Kaspersky, it was in the news that they’re giving PLDT Fibr subscribers a 2-year subscription to Kaspersky premium but I can’t find it on the PLDT website, any news on that?
