Google has begun rolling out new “Theft Protection” features to Android, including Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock. These are two of three features that Google previously announced, the third being Remote Lock, which some users already report having.
Theft Detection Lock is perhaps, the most intriguing among the new anti-theft features. As shared by Mishaal Rahman, the feature uses AI along with a device’s motion sensors to attempt detecting “common motion associated with theft.”
So, when someone snatches your phone and runs away either on foot or by vehicle, the phone automatically locks the screen preventing unwanted access.

Then, there’s the Offline Device Lock that automatically locks the device when it goes offline for a short time. For example, the will auto-lock if a thief turns off Wi-Fi or internet to cut location tracking.
Lastly, the Remote Lock lets you lock your phone using only your mobile number if you ever find yourself unable to sign in to Find My Device using your Google account.

Rahman says that the new Theft Protection features are rolling out to Android users in the US. Google told him that the final versions of these features will have a wider rollout later this year.
For compatibility, Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock are supported on any Android phone running Android 10 or later. For the Remote Lock, it supports at least Android 5 Lollipop.
The new Theft Protection features should pop up inside Google services. Go to Settings > Google > tap on All services tab > scroll to Personal & device safety.
