Nothing teases next device: not the Phone (3) but most likely a CMF Phone

London-based phone maker Nothing has teased an upcoming smartphone launch. Speculations say that it could either be the Nothing Phone (3) or the first phone under the company’s sub-brand CMF.

Nothing’s official X account (formerly Twitter) shared a photo of a device featuring a distinctive screw with a caption “3, 2, 1.” This most likely implies an imminent smartphone launch which the company further hinted in a following tweet depicting emojis of a phone and a screw.

While there’s a strong possibility this could be Nothing’s next flagship, rumors also suggest the device could be the CMF Phone 1. Leaked specifications and pricing information about the device have already surfaced online since last month.

According to realMlgmXyysd (via X), the image shown by Nothing is indeed a CMF Phone 1 — evident with the screw that the user refers to as the ‘Nothing Lock’. This feature essentially describes a locking mechanism for exclusive add-ons of Nothing accessories such as brackets, lanyards, etc.

The tipster also claimed that the phone will come with a replaceable plastic back panel — an unexpected return in today’s smartphones. While that is a feature not commonly seen in modern phones, there’s apparently no removable battery that usually comes along with a replaceable back panel.
